Gen Con 2019: Marvel Gets a New Miniature Game, Marvel: Crisis Protocol Miniatures Game

At Gen Con 2019, Fantasy Flight Games announced Marvel: Crisis Protocol, a new miniature game from Atomic Mass Games. Atomic Mass Games was recently acquired by Asmodee. Atomic Mass Games was founded in 2018.

During Fantasy Flight’s In-Flight report it was revealed that the game is set in the Marvel Universe and is a skirmish miniature game that allows you to form a team of heroes and villains. Yes, you can mix the good guys and bad guys! You can also put together teams and get bonuses. You get to play out your own Marvel stories on the tabletop even down to throwing the terrain allowing the tabletop to evolve.

Spider-Man, Black Widow, and Captain Marvel will be some of the launch miniatures. The miniatures will be hard plastic allowing for high detail, ease of assembly, and durable.

The game will launch in the fall with a core set that will give you everything you need to build your team. Character packs will also be released that add new character, new scenarios, and new tactic cards. The first two are the Hulk and M.O.D.O.K. The game will also see terrain packs with famous locations from the Marvel Universe and will also include multiple modes of play. The first up is Raids where two individuals team up to take on a “boss” controlled by a third player. Narrative campaign sets will also be released down the road.

The game will also launch with Organized Play at stores.

Marvel Champions: The Card Game

Kicking of Gen Con 2019, Fantasy Flight Games has announced Marvel Champions: The Card Game a cooperative Living Card Game that brings superheroes to the LCG format.

The game has players trying to stop villains from enacting their schemes and the game comes with over 350 cards, 100 50kens, five hit point trackers, and more.

The main set is just the beginning and new expansions will be released every month that adds new heroes, scenarios, and more.

Marvel Champions: The Card Game Core Set will give you a complete set of cards, giving you everything you need to customize your heroes!

Along with the main set, a series of playmats will be released.

Gen Con and Make-A-Wish Grant First-of-its-Kind Wish at the 2019 Convention

Gen Con is partnering with Make-A-Wish to make a Missouri boy’s wish to attend the convention come true at Gen Con 2019 this August 1-4. Twelve-year-old Drake Kiderlen of Troy, MO, who is battling a Pineal Parenchymal Tumor, will attend Gen Con this year on an all-expenses-paid trip with members of his family. Drake’s wish will be the first time a wish is granted at Gen Con.

Drake, who will celebrate his thirteenth birthday on Friday, August 2 during the convention, will see, learn, and play as he takes in the more than 520 exhibiting game companies, hundreds of newly released games, and choice of 18,000 ticketed events during the four-day convention in the Indiana Convention Center.

When he was asked what his wish would be, Drake told Make-A-Wish that he wanted more than anything else to go to Gen Con to play Dungeon and Dragons, and learn about new board games. Drake will kick off Gen Con by assisting Gen Con co-owner Peter Adkison in the annual Roll of the Dice, which officially opens the convention on Thursday, August 1 at 10 am. He is also scheduled for several games and events of his choosing, including Foam Weapon Fighting, D&D and other roleplaying games, a board game event, and a fantasy-themed improv comedy show.

Gen Con 2019: Cryptozoic Shows off New Tabletop Games Including DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth and new Spyfall!

Cryptozoic Entertainment has announced that it will showcase three new tabletop games, conduct demos and tournaments, and offer several exclusive promotional items at Gen Con, August 1-4 at the Indianapolis Convention Center in Indiana.

At Booth #503, Cryptozoic will sell DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth, the innovative latest entry in the popular series that will also be available at retailers the same day. Moreover, the company will sell limited pre-release quantities of Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: ANNIHILAGEDDON Deck-Building Game and Spyfall: Time TravelAll three games will come with exclusive Promo Cards at Gen Con. The limited-edition Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards Statue, based on the game series, will be sold as well. In addition, Rick and Morty fans can get an exclusive game card featuring Glootie, a character from the upcoming fourth season of the show, by purchasing any Rick and Morty game being sold at the booth. Finally, Cryptozoic will offer tournaments and demo events throughout the show for several releases, including titles in the DC Deck-Building Game and Epic Spell Wars series.

Cryptozoic will sell its three newest titles for the first time at the show, along with the first Epic Spell Wars collectible:

DC Deck-Building Game: Rebirth: This entry in the popular DC Deck-Building Game series breaks fresh ground with linked Campaign Scenarios, character progression, and character movement between iconic locations. In the game, 1-4 players become members of the Justice League and move their standees to find cards for their decks and defeat dastardly Villains. Each Scenario includes special rules, new cards, and different locations. Fans who buy it at Gen Con will also receive the Training Scenario Card “Learning the Ropes,” while supplies last. In addition, gamers can buy a limited edition playmat for $35.

Epic Spell WarsTM of the Battle Wizards: ANNIHILAGEDDON Deck-Building Game: The first Epic Spell Wars deck-building game features the trademark over-the-top, mature humor and art that fans have come to expect from the series. It utilizes Cryptozoic’s Cerberus Engine in innovative ways as 2-5 players become Wizards and try to buy magical Spell, Wizard, Treasure, and Creature cards—among other card types—in order to defeat their opponents and become the Annilageddon Tournament Champion. Fans who purchase the game or any other Epic Spell Wars game from Cryptozoic at Gen Con will receive the exclusive Studd Spellslammer & The Juice! Promo Card Set, while supplies last. Gamers can also buy a limited edition playmat for $30.

Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards Statue: Based on the popular Epic Spell Wars tabletop games, this 9-inch polyresin statue features Studd Spellslammer and The Juice!, one of the series’s Wizard champions and his sidekick, respectively. Capturing the over-the-top style of the art from the games, each limited edition statue is individually numbered 1-250 and will sell for $66.60.

Spyfall: Time Travel: In this latest social deduction card game in the popular Spyfall series, 2-8 players take on roles in memorable locations from history, as well as some futuristic locations. In the intense timed rounds, the non-spy players ask questions and give answers to deduce which one of them is the spy without giving away the location, while the spy player tries to figure out the location before his or her identity is revealed. The locations include the Colosseum, the French Revolution, Leonardo’s Studio, and a Lunar Base, among many others across time. Fans who purchase the game at Cryptozoic’s booth at Gen Con will receive the exclusive Dracula’s Castle Location Deck, while supplies last.

Finally, Gen Con attendees who purchase one of Cryptozoic’s Rick and Morty games will receive a Promo Card featuring Glootie, a character from the upcoming fourth season of Adult Swim’s series. The card can be used in the company’s deck-building games based on the show: Rick and Morty: Close Rick-Counters of the Rick Kind Deck-Building Game and Rick and Morty: The Rickshank Rickdemption Deck-Building Game.

Hellboy: The Wild Hunt

Mantic will have the very first copies of the brand-new expansion, The Wild Hunt – flown straight in from China. This will be the first time the expansion has been available anywhere in the world – but there’s only 50 copies, so you might need to be quick to get yours! And don’t worry if you’re not at the show, the expansion will be available from retailers and the Mantic website in September.

If you missed out on the Kickstarter, they’ll have the last few Hellboy Kickstarters copies available in the USA at our booth 835. There are less than 100 Kickstarter Editions – and they are on a first come, first served basis (plus use the voucher from the coupon book to get $20 off).

You want more Hellboy madness? Mantic will have the new Hellboy Show Exclusive Nimue, the Blood Queen miniature available in very limited amounts at the stand. Don’t worry if you can’t make it to Gen Con, Nimue will be available at other shows we attend and from the Mantic website soon!


Call to Arms will be making its debut at Gen Con. On the stand the new book will be available, along with the faction cards and equipment deck. If you want to take your games of All Out War to the next level, then this is a vital purchase.

For Walking Dead fans, Gen Con will be the first opportunity in the US to grab the Show Exclusive Chris, Leader of the Hunters. Not only do you get Chris, but he also comes with two gruesome resin objective markers.

Also at Gencon Mantic will host the legendary Mantic Night. The ticket costs $30 but for that you get the 10 Year Mantic Gencon Celebration pint pot, a pint of craft beer to put in it (or other tasty beverage of your choice) and a $30 voucher to spend on the Mantic stand. So basically, Mantic’s paying you to come and spend the evening with them! How amazing is that? The event takes place Saturday at 8pm at the Kingmakers Board Game Parlour, where you can chat, drink and game!

Gen Con Has Sold Out of 4-Day and Saturday Badges, Thursday Going Soon

Gen Con has announced that it has sold out of 4-Day and Saturday Badges, setting a record for the number of 4-Day badge-holders. The convention also anticipates that Thursday Badges will reach a sellout prior to the convention opening this week. Gen Con will alert attendees of any badge sellouts via Facebook, Twitter, and email newsletter. Those interested in attending the convention on Thursday, Friday, or Sunday can purchase badges at gencon.com while limited supplies remain.

The convention has sold more 4-Day Badges than ever before in Gen Con’s 52-year history.

In addition to online sales, Gen Con plans to sell limited quantities of the remaining single-day badges (Thursday, Friday, and Sunday) at the Indiana Convention Center, beginning at noon on Wednesday, July 31.

Gen Con returns to the Indiana Convention Center from Thursday, August 1 through Sunday, August 4. Gen Con’s Thursday and Friday Badges are $60 for each day, and Sunday Badges cost $15. Children 10-and-under may attend any day of the convention for free with a child wristband. All badges and child wristbands may be pre-ordered at gencon.com for Will Call pickup at the convention center while supplies last.

For those who can’t make it to Indianapolis for the convention, there is something new: Pop-Up Gen Con brings the convention experience to local game stores across the country! Register today to play and pre-order new games releasing at Gen Con at participating stores during Gen Con 2019 this August.

Last year, Visit Indy estimated that Gen Con provided more than $70 million in economic value for Central Indiana, and this year, the convention expects that number to rise.

Gen Con 2019: Mondo Games is Unmatched!

Gen Con 2019 is right around the corner and Mondo Games will be in attendance with the first 3 game sets in their brand new head-to-head skirmish game system Unmatched, plus some exciting new games on display/demo. 

Unmatched is a head-to-head miniatures skirmish game system for two to four players.

The first two sets in the line are Battle of Legends, Vol. 1 and the eponymous Robin Hood vs. Big Foot. The Battle of Legends set allows players to engage in combat as King Arthur, Alice, Medusa, or Sinbad. Heroes from any set can be played against each other, making for surprising and exciting matchups and tons of replayability.

The game features striking art by Oliver Barrett and groundbreaking graphic design by the team of Lindsay Daviau, Jay Shaw, and Jason Taylor.

Restoration and Mondo Games will release several licensed versions of Unmatched set within the master game system. The initial wave includes both a Bruce Lee solo pack and a Buffy the Vampire Slayer set, slated to release later this year.

The line continues in 2020 with Cobble & Fog, featuring heroes of Victorian literature: Sherlock Holmes, the Invisible Man, Dracula, and Jekyll & Hyde. Additional unannounced sets are in development.

Battle of Legends, Vol. 1 and Robin Hood vs. Big Foot will debut at Gen Con this year, with an MSRP of $39.95 for the four-pack and $24.95 for the two-pack. The Bruce Lee pack is a limited edition production; availability details will be announced in the coming months.
