Dungeons & Dragons comes to US stamps in 2024 to celebrate 50 years

The U.S. Postal Service announced four new stamp “subjects” for 2024 with more reveals to come. To celebrate 50 years of Dungeons & Dragons, 10 stamp designs will be released highlighting characters, creatures, and encounters from the “world’s greatest role-playing game.”

Greg Breeding, an art director for USPS, designed the stamps and pane (which features 20 stamps) with existing illustrations. The original artists weren’t credited in the announcement.

Games Workshop Pre-Order Preview: Warhammer Underworlds and Warcry are on the way! Plus more Blood Bowl and a Bandai Intercessor!?

Games Workshop has revealed what’s going on pre-order next week. They’ll be on pre-order for two weeks maybe signaling a change in the process we’ve all come to expect!? It’s the second week in a row for that… On to what’s coming!

Warhammer Underworlds: Deathgorge takes you to the icy depths of Andtor, a network of frozen tunnels and caves that has entombed untold treasures – not to mention the souls of unlucky adventurers. There you’ll find both Idoneth Deepkin and daemons of Slaanesh. Deep in the boreal depths of the Deathgorge, Cyreni’s Razors and the Thricefold Discord are locked in a bitter battle.

The new core set for Warhammer Underworlds features two new warbands, two new Rivals decks, two universal Rivals decks, and everything else you need to play the ultimate competitive miniatures game.

Warhammer Underworlds: Deathgorge

Warhammer Underworlds: Starter Set is a great way for beginners to get into the game. It’ll be available from select retailers. It’s on sale from Saturday the 7th of October, and differs slightly from the current Warhammer Underworlds: Starter Set. It contains two warbands – Ironsoul’s Condemnors and the Sepulchral Guard – as well as their Rivals decks and everything else you need to play. The set is made for new players, running through how to play with an example game before you tackle a full game yourself.

Warcry: Hunter and Hunted is a new type of release for Warcry. The Wildercorps Hunters are currently following the ogors’ foul scent with the aid of their loyal Trailhounds – but unluckily for them, they’re perfectly snack-sized for the Gorgers. This new Warcry set features two warbands and an eternally hungry Mawpit.

Warcry: Hunter and Hunted

Warcry: Kruleboyz Monsta-killaz kill, and capture these savage beasties to keep the stinking stables of the Beast-breaka tribes stocked. When out on the hunt, they employ tamed Gnarlwood Howlaz to flush out their quarry and dispatch surreptitious Klutcha-grots to steal the goodies.

Warcry: Kruleboyz Monsta-killaz

Warcry: Vulkyn Flameseekers have no mercy to those who threaten to harm the free-roaming Magmadroths– though they won’t hesitate to put down any ‘droths that have become unstable.

Warcry: Vulkyn Flameseekers

Ravaged Lands: Scales of Talaxis is new scenery for Warcry. These ruins are dire reminders of the catastrophe that once struck this place, and still pulse with cosmic power, setting the mire around them alight with crackling arcane energy. They’re also just right for fighters to leap off and dramatically stab unwary foes.

You can use this set to build a new Warcry battlefield or expand your Gnarlwood Watchcamp with new pieces of ruined stonework and strangling briars, plus a double-sided gaming board, terrain cards to help you decide on a layout, and a Warcry token sheet.

Ravaged Lands: Scales of Talaxis

Originally released for Warhammer Underworlds, these warbands all have rules in Warhammer Age of Sigmar, and are getting a standalone release in grey plastic without their cards. The warbands are the Gorechosen of Dromm, Hexbane’s Hunters, The Shadeborn, Blackpowder’s Buccaneers, Da Kunnin’ Krew, Skittershank’s Clawpack, The Exiled Dead, and Xandire’s Truthseekers.

White Dwarf 493 features new rules for a Warhammer Age of Sigmar narrative campaign, as well as new scenarios, and painting and gaming advice. The Warhammer 40,000 Tale of Four Warlords continues alongside Crusade rules for the Tome Keepers, while Warcry gets a dose of Courage and Cruelty with quests and artefacts for the Vulkyn Fyreslayers and Kruleboyz Monsta-killaz, and you can whet your appetite for the upcoming Legions Imperialis in an early battle report.

Kiroth Krakeneye comes to the Blood Bowl pitch. Krakeneye is a skilled runner who once per game can squirt Black Ink and fully remove one player’s tackle zone, leaving opposing players grasping at thin air as his sea dragon cloak flutters behind him.

From Black Library comes Realmslayer: Legend of The Doomseeker by David Guymer. A long time ago, Gotrek Gurnisson swore an oath to die in battle – but he somehow survived the death of his entire world. Not one to let failure get in his way, Gotrek arrives in the Mortal Realms with only two things on his mind – completing his oath, and trying to find out if his former friend Felix also survived the apocalypse.

Realmslayer: Legend of the Doomseeker is a novelisation of the audio drama which introduced Gotrek into the Age of Sigmar, and it will be available to pre-order in hardback, eBook, and audiobook format.

Realmslayer: Legend of The Doomseeker

In the dark and dangerous streets of the hive city of Varangantua, law enforcers and vigilantes live alongside crime lords and gangers, and violence is only ever a moment away. Once a Killer is a paperback collection of eight short stories by Black Library authors including Nick Kyme, Denny Flowers, Jude Reid, and more. Each tale is packed full of bloodshed, corruption, and betrayal, and together, they paint a grisly picture of this teeming city of thieves.

The Lord of The End Times comes to audiobook. Only the last heroes of men, elves, and dwarfs stand between Archaon the Everchosen and the city of Middenheim, which is the key to his ultimate victory for Chaos. With things looking bleak, eyes turn to the unlikeliest of allies – Nagash, the Undying King.

You can find out how this tenuous alliance was resolved in Josh ReynoldsThe Lord of The End Times, which will be available to pre-order in audiobook next week for the first time.

D&D Direct reveals new games, collectibles, toys, and more!

Wizards of the Coast held their D&D Direct 2023 Showcase today focusing on things spinning out of Dungeons & Dragons. During the presentation, Wizards of the Coast announced new partnerships that expand the breadth of the D&D brand from digital games to physical collectibles from top toy manufacturers Hasbro and WizKids. The first of these new partnerships is with Minecraft and the launch of a new Minecraft D&D DLC, available on the Minecraft Marketplace Spring 2023!

In this new Minecraft D&D DLC, players choose among classes like barbarian or wizard and explore five iconic Forgotten Realms locations such as Candlekeep and Icewind Dale while defeating classic baddies like beholders, mimics, mindflayers and, of course, dragons! This new, original adventure allows players to customize their characters’ stats and roll 20-sided dice to determine how to proceed in fully-voiced dialogue. Play with friends and get a unique D&D experience in the world of Minecraft.

Hasbro is all in on D&D and has been creating amazing figures fans will love. Not only are there the previously announced Dicelings and 6” figures of the characters from Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and the classic D&D cartoon, but Hasbro showed off the Golden Archive releases of the Xanathar, an owlbear, and the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves displacer beast.

For Magic fans, Wizards also announced a special Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Secret Lair drop for Magic: The Gathering. This pack features six cards based on the characters of the film including Edgin, Larcenous Lutenist; Forge, Neverwinter Charlatan; and Holga, Relentless Rager all bearing the likeness of the actor playing the role. Pre-orders for Secret Lair x Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves are open today!

The writing of R.A. Salvatore in the Legend of Drizzt has become synonymous with many D&D fans’ vision of the Forgotten Realms. With the release of Dao of Drizzt this fall and the upcoming conclusion to the latest trilogy featuring the drow ranger, Lolth’s Warrior, Salvatore looked back on the character that has meant so much to fans. Wizards’ partners at Gearbox Publishing and Cryptic Studios have teamed up with Salvatore to create Menzoberranzan, the 25th expansion for the popular MMO NeverwinterThe new expansion is available now on PC, Xbox, and Playstation, and lets players explore the dangerous city for the first time in the game.

WizKids has brought to life hundreds of D&D creatures over the years but none as gruesome – or adorable – as the D&D Replicas of the Realms they introduced during D&D Direct. The mimic may look like a treasure chest on the outside, but its purple tongue and vicious teeth will make any adventurer lose their lunch, and their hands, pretty quickly. The 20-inch-tall mimic is no match for the cuteness of the 11” baby owlbear figure with its “puppy dog” eyes.

D&D Direct rounded out with details on the upcoming documentary from Joe Manganiello celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the game in 2024. Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford from the D&D studio also dropped hints at what’s to come with previews of upcoming books, story hooks involving fan-favorite characters and villains, and a deeper look at pre-alpha gameplay footage from the D&D virtual tabletop (VTT) that’s currently in development at Wizards of the Coast.
