Oceans Lite, the digital implementation of the critically acclaimed tabletop strategy game Oceans, sets sail today on Android and iOS and is now available as a free download.
Oceans, part of North Star Games’ Evolution line of games, was released this year following a massively successful Kickstarter campaign. It is a species-building strategy game designed by Nick Bentley, Dominic Crapuchettes, Ben Goldman, and Brian O’Neill, where players battle to survive in an ever-changing ecosystem.
Players craft unique species of animals using 12 Surface traits and a unique array of Deep cards representing the unexplored depths of the ocean, all while navigating the challenges of different Scenario cards. By combining different traits rooted in science, players’ species can develop symbiotic relationships or even evolve carnivorous traits and feast on foes. The winner is the player who can build the most successful species to survive and thrive in changing conditions.
Oceans Lite, created by the team at North Star Digital Studios, offers features designed to introduce new players to the world of the game while giving veteran players a place to sharpen their skills. This implementation of the tabletop game features a learn-while-you-play tutorial from Darwin himself, a solo mode pitting gamers against an enemy AI. Additional features, including a pass and play
At release, Oceans Lite includes 20 of the tabletop game’s Deep cards and 4 Scenario cards. These allow for significant replayability and give players a taste of the game’s millions and millions of unique combinations of species and environments. One additional pack of Deep and Surface cards is available for purchase at launch for $.99, allowing players to unlock even more content and dive deeper into Oceans Lite. That purchase also unlocks additional features including a pass and play mode and additional levels of AI difficulty.
Oceans Lite is available for free download in English on Android and iOS, with additional packs of Deep and Surface cards available for purchase.
Netmarble has announced that they will be shutting down Magic: Manastrike on February 23, 2021. The game launched in January 2020 and is a mobile game based on Magic: The Gathering. In it, you build a deck to defend your own and destroy your opponent’s totems.
Currently, all in-app purchases for the games have been disabled though players can still spend gems and gold they acquire through the game.
The game had a relatively positive reception but never quite found the reception other mobile games have. While fun and definitely capturing the feel of Magic: The Gathering, the game has been hampered by its modes which have remained limited and not varied enough. Strategy has generally stagnated too with games revolving around a few decks and characters.
Servers will remain open until 2/23/2021 21:00 PST, afterward, the game service will no longer be available.
Focus Home Interactive and Rogue Factor have released Necromunda: Underhive Wars, the first video game adaptation of Games Workshop’s dark and violent Necromundatabletop game, part of the Warhammer 40,000universe. This new tactical RPG is available today on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam. Experience a massive story campaign, customize and lead your gang through endless Operations, and take the fight online in fast-paced strategy battles for up to four players.
Necromunda: Underhive Wars is a game of choices in every respect. Pick your house, select which marauders to hire, and level up your gang with new skills, stats, gear, passives, careers, and more.
In the campaign, you’ll join the feud of shaky alliances and vendettas between Houses Escher, Goliath and Orlock as they vie for control of ancient technology and power. Gaining the upper hand won’t be easy — keeping it from other factions will be even harder. Then challenge other gangs online in free-for-all, team-based, and pure 1v1 matches that will test your dominance of the battlefield.
Rogue Factor and Focus Home Interactive have released a first look at gameplay for Necromunda: Underhive Wars, the third-person tactical action game set in Games Workshop’s iconic far-future cityscape, coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Sept. 8, 2020.
Deep below the nightmarish, polluted hive cities of Necromunda, in the dark, twisted tunnels of the Underhive, rival gangs fight to the bitter end for personal power, wealth, survival and the honor of their House.
Lead, customize and grow your forces of Escher, Goliath and Orlock gangers, specializing each unit for battle in hazardous, vertical, dystopian environments. Exploit the terrain in explosive tactical gunfights: climb raised walkways to take the advantage, set traps, and ambush foes to force them into bloody melee engagements.
The game will take you deep into the hive city Tertium where horrors await. In the initial trailer, we can see an encounter with the forces of a Chaos cult. You’ll join four friends to purge the heretics.
In the depths of the hive, the seeds of corruption threaten an overwhelming tide of darkness. A heretical cult known as the Admonition seeks to seize control of the planet Atoma Prime and lay waste to its inhabitants. It is up to you and your allies in the Inquisition to root out the enemy before the city succumbs to Chaos.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is expected to be released in 2021.
