Cephalofair Games reveals Gloomhaven: The Role Playing Game
Cephalofair Games, publisher of the board games Gloomhaven and Frosthaven, has announced its latest project set in the same high fantasy, high strategy world they’ve built. Last year Cephalofair announced plans to crowdfund a fantasy miniatures line to complement its catalog of boardgames – providing highly detailed sculpts for each of its in-game enemies, bosses, and summonable creatures typically represented by 2D cardboard standees and tokens. Now, they’ve revealed that the plan is so much more than just miniatures with a brand new product—Gloomhaven: The Roleplaying Game!
Unlike other RPG systems reliant on dice and set character-build structures – Gloomhaven: The Role Playing Game will continue to uphold one of Cephalofair’s core mission statements – to “minimize randomness and reward player savvy”.
The roleplaying game and miniatures will be available in April, 2023.
The new roleplaying game isn’t the Gloomhaven board game with a game master. It allows for any class and ancestry combination, opening up the playing field. Working off of a new system, it integrates card management into the roleplaying experience. A third skill check action lets players perform great feats out of combat but also opens up a new dimension to combat itself.
Not only does the Gloomhaven: Roleplaying Game take place in the same world as Cephalofair’s boardgames – but it is actively being designed to be cross-compatible with all of the previous board game releases. The goal is to make each box-box campaign board players already have feel like a Gloom Master tool kit. You’ll be able to crafter adventures using the map tiles, enemy standees/miniatures, tokens, overlay tiles, and more.
Cephalofair earlier this year recruited BJ Hensley to its team as the Director of Art and Graphic Design bringing with her 15+ years of experience spearheading product development, editorial management, design, and production across a tremendous range of RPG industry products. BJ is additionally lending her leadership and expertise as the RPGs Creative Director, helping launch this brand-new chapter of world-building artwork, design, writing, and storytelling that we’re all eager to explore.
