Fireside Games Reveals Remnants and Grackles for 2018

Fireside Games has announced their new releases for 2018 today at the GAMA Trade Show. Remnants, a post-apocalyptic survival game, comes out June 27. The primary mechanic is real-time resource-gathering in which players send out Scavengers to the Badlands to scramble for wood, rope, metal, plastic, and cloth via dice-rolling. Looters may also be sent out to search for scrap, medicine, and tools. Players may then spend those resources on Development cards to improve their compounds and fend off attacks from Raiders and mutant creatures. Remnants supports 2–4 players, ages 13 and up, and takes an hour to play. MSRP is $39.95.

Grackles, a lightly themed abstract strategy game, will be a Gen Con release onAugust 1. The goal of the game is to line up as many of your own colored birds in rows on telephone wires. Each turn, players choose 1 of these 4 actions:

  • place a tile with 4 colored spots on telephone wire,
  • connect 2 of their colored spots with their matching birds,
  • extend a line of birds they laid down,
  • or rotate an unoccupied tile.

Grackles includes 180 acrylic, debossed bird tokens, supports 2–4 players, ages 10 and up, and takes 30 minutes to play. MSRP is $39.95.

Fireside Games also announced their 3rd annual celebration of International Panic Day, which will occur in independently owned game stores around the world on June 2. To help stores celebrate, Fireside Games is offering Castle Panic Event Kits. Each kit supports 16 players and offers 3 different game formats: casual play, team play, and scenario play. Casual play is noncompetitive and offers new players the opportunity to learn this evergreen, cooperative game. Team play provides a group competitive experience in which teams add up slain monsters to win prizes. Scenario play offers a unique, exclusive way to play Castle Panic. In this format, 2 teams play head-to-head in Nightmare Mode, throwing their slain monsters into the forest of the competing team. The goal is to have the last tower standing.

Each participant receives a new promo card. Team and scenario play winners receive exclusive suede Monster bags (as does the Event Coordinator). Runners up go home with Monster-eye game totes. And the person who most contributes to the spirit of the event is awarded the Defender of the Realm pin.

Kits include the rewards listed above as well as event instructions, an event sign-up sheet, and 2 demo copies of Castle Panic. An Add-On Kit is also available without the demo copies. Retailers may contact distributors for pricing and to place orders.
