Games Workshop Reveals Warhammer 40,000 9th Edition
The rumors have proven true, and Games Workshop has announced the 9th edition of Warhammer 40,000. The new edition will allow current codexes to be compatible (until new ones are released) and with a few Psychic Awakening books still to be released, that’s a good thing.
There have been a few teasers as to what we can expect with the new edition and it sounds much more like a .75 rules change as opposed to anything major.
The new edition includes a “Crusade System” that links your games in an ongoing narrative. It allows for both growth in size of an army but also the “story it tells.” Units and characters gain “Battle Honours, special skills and Crusade relics as well as Battle Scars.” Out of all of the initial announcement, this addition sounds the most promising and intriguing as it will encourage ongoing campaigns and narratives that allows us collectors to create an even closer bond with our army. For those who play Blood Bowl, you’ll know what I mean by that.
Other things mentioned in the announcement were “more command points,” “tanks are back on track can shoot in combat,” “terrain has been rebuilt,” “strategic reserves has been changed,” and “aircraft take flight.”
The game too has been “balanced for every size.” With the addition of Kill Team to Games Workshop’s games, it makes you wonder what lessons has been learned from that game, which will continue to exist and will get new material spinning out of the new edition of Warhammer 40,000.
We’ll have more to come, including a look at the new Space Marines and Necrons, and we’ll have the new edition of the game in our hands not too long from now it sounds like.
