Paizo’s Starfinder Alexa Skill Finds a New Home at Wanderword

Wanderword has signed a licensing agreement with Paizo to take their award-winning science-fantasy Starfinder Alexa Skill to new heights. Wanderword will manage the development of the audio adventure, adding the power of their experienced team.

The skill was originally developed by Amazon’s internal team in collaboration with Paizo in December of 2019 and currently has over 900 4-star reviews in the U.S. Skill store alone. The Starfinder team secured two awards at this year’s Project Voice Awardspicking up both Voice Experience of the Year and Developer of the Year, cementing Starfinder’s position as a flagship entertainment title for the Amazon Alexa. Starfinder features over 13 hours of interactive gameplay and is a must for anyone who loves voice-first interactive audio gaming.

The second half of Starfinder is available starting today, featuring three brand-new episodes. The Starfinder skill for Alexa is a multi-part interactive audio adventure game that transports players to a futuristic science-fantasy world where they can make decisions to advance and influence the outcome of the story just by using their voice. By simply saying “Alexa, play the Starfinder game,” customers can play one of the most captivating audio games available on Alexa-enabled devices today. According to Amazon, users have played nearly 2 million minutes of Starfinder, making it one of the most popular Alexa skills this year.

Starfinder features an exceptional voice cast of 13 actors, with casting led by Audible Studios. Nathan Fillion and Laura Bailey join a cast of veteran voice actors of Audible, including Kevin Pariseau, Elizabeth Evans, Allyson Johnson, LJ Ganser, and Lauren Fortgang.

Paizo, the team responsible for the popular Starfinder tabletop game, and Amazon collaborated to reimagine the game for Alexa. The free-to-play pilot episode of Starfinder, “Scoundrels in the Spike,” debuted in December 2019, and episodes 1 to 3 were launched on August 4, 2020 to much fanfare.

Pre-existing fans of the roleplaying game will enjoy this new extension of the familiar world, but previous experience with source material is not required.

Casting was led by the Audible Studios team – featuring some of their most popular performers, with almost 2,000 audiobook performances between them. Starfinder’s script exceeds 745 pages and took a combined 125 hours in the studio to record all of the possible twists and turns, resulting in up to 13 hours of gameplay.

The free to play pilot episode of Starfinder, “Scoundrels in the Spike,” debuted in December 2019 and was well-received by Alexa users, with a 4.6/5 stars rating. “I love this game!!! The narration is wonderful, and the sound effects are on point. The voice acting is like watching a movie.
