Overlord: A Boss Monster Adventure is Live on Kickstarter

Overlord: A Boss Monster Adventure

Brotherwise Games has launched the Kickstarter for Overlord: A Boss Monster Adventure.

Designed for gamers of all skill levels, Overlord is a tile-laying game that challenges 2-4 players to create a videogame-inspired “overworld.” Players must draft terrain tiles and monster tokens to build the most powerful map and claim the title of Overlord!

Overlord is set in the world of Boss Monster, one of the most successful indie board games of the past decade. With over 800,000 copies sold, Boss Monster’s villainous theme and retro pixel art brought scores of gamers to the tabletop hobby. Overlord continues that tradition, but this is a brand-new game with entirely new mechanics.

Overlord was designed by Aaron Mesburne and Kevin Russ. Each turn, players must add a terrain tile and monster token to their map. This simple core mechanic is the foundation for a game where players will need to juggle set collection, tile adjacencies, token placement, and competitive drafting.

Brotherwise has already announced that Overlord will hit retail in late October of this year (MSRP $44.95), but the Kickstarter campaign will play an important role in funding stretch goals that can expand the quality and quantity of components. Also in October, Brotherwise will release Vault of Villains, a 64-card expansion for the original Boss Monster game series.

Overlord is an All-New Board Game Set in the World of Boss Monster

Brotherwise Games is taking the world of Boss Monster in a whole new direction with Overlord: A Boss Monster Adventure.

The board game launches on Kickstarter on June 16 at 8am EST.

It’s time to rise from your dungeon and conquer the overworld. Build terrain, recruit monsters, and create the deadliest map. Become the most powerful Boss and take your rightful place as OVERLORD!

The game is an all-new game featuring the retro villains of Boss Monster with a tile-drafting and map-building mechanic.

Road to Gen Con 2016: Boss Monster in Virtual Reality at Premieres

Brotherwise Games announced the convention premier of the Virtual Reality (VR) version of their hit tabletop card game, Boss Monster, at this year’s Gen Con, Aug. 4-7 in Indianapolis. Convention goers will be able to experience the tabletop game in virtual reality.

Brotherwise partnered with VR pioneer AltspaceVR to bring Boss Monster to the virtual table. AltspaceVR made waves in the gaming community in 2015 with their VR Dungeon & Dragons sessions, but Boss Monster VR represents the first virtual reality version of a tabletop game with complex pieces, cards, and interactions.

The tabletop game market has been experiencing double-digit growth for several years, and the population of gamers continues to grow. VR offers a new frontier for game developers, and AltspaceVR allows multiple people to be together in virtual space, which is ideal for tabletop games.

Brotherwise and AltspaceVR will demonstrate Boss Monster VR at booth #2343 during Gen Con.

The game is already available online. You can sign up, sign in, and play now. Boss Monster can be played in AltspaceVR in full VR mode using Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, or Samsung Gear VR. Players without VR devices can play Boss Monster in desktop mode on their PC or Mac, using an audio headset with a microphone.
