Wizards of the Coast Announces the New Dungeons & Dragons storyline, Elemental Evil

Elemental Evil Logo  (2)Wizards of the Coast announced today that the next storyline for their revamped Dungeons & Dragons is called Elemental Evil. The story will thread through lots of different products including things for both digital and tabletop players. Elemental Evil will begin this March and run through mid-summer during which heroes are needed in the Forgotten Realms to discover and defeat secret cults that threaten to annihilate the Sword Coast by harnessing the powers of the elements of fire, water, air, and earth.

The product line-up includes the release of a new downloadable module—Neverwinter: Elemental Evilfor the highly acclaimed free-to-play Dungeons & Dragons MMORPG from Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment. Serving as an additional way for fans to experience the storyline, Neverwinter: Elemental Evil brings a new playable class—the Paladin—and increases the game’s level cap to 70. Neverwinter is set in the Forgotten Realms, and the new expansion launches in early 2015. Cryptic also recently announced Neverwinter on Xbox One will be available in early 2015 as well.

Characters in the D&D tabletop roleplaying game can help prevent devastation to the lands and people of the Forgotten Realms in the Princes of the Apocalypse adventure by Wizards of the Coast and Sasquatch Game Studio. Princes of the Apocalypse is available on April 7, 2015 and includes an epic adventure for characters levels 1 – 15 as well as new elemental spells and the element-touched genasi as a new playable race. In addition, a free download will be available in mid-March that includes more new races plus the player content available in Princes of the Apocalypse, just in time for the start of the Elemental Evil season of the D&D Adventurers League.

Other products tied into the Elemental Evil storyline include the Temple of Elemental Evil Adventure System Board Game and pre-painted collectible miniatures, both from WizKids Games. WizKids has also partnered with Perfect World Entertainment to bundle in-game items for Neverwinter with the Temple of Elemental Evil Adventure System Board Game and miniatures boosters. Rounding out the tabletop RPG game products is Gale Force Nine’s new Dungeon Master’s screen featuring Elemental Evil art, as well as unpainted, resin miniatures that tie into the adventure, all slated to release beginning in March.

Wizards of the Coast Gives us a Glimpse at Dungeons & Dragons in 2015

dnd players handbook featuredAt PAX Prime 2014, Wizards of the Coast provided a glimpse of what Dungeons & Dragons will offer in 2015, with new digital offerings set in the Forgotten Realms from partners including Backflip Studios, Beamdog and Cryptic Studios with Perfect World Entertainment.

Throughout 2014, D&D has ignited excitement in the game industry with a celebration of the brand’s 40th anniversary, the launch of new rules for the tabletop RPG, and the exciting and engaging Tyranny of Dragons storyline.

Neverwinter MMORPG on Xbox One

Rob Overmeyer confirmed that the highly-acclaimed free-to-play MMORPG, Neverwinter, will be coming to Xbox One in the first half of 2015. At launch, console gamers will be able to experience the fast-paced combat and epic dungeons all set in the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms universe.

Dungeons & Dragons Partners with Backflip Studios

Ryan Drag unveiled that Backflip Studios is designing a “castle defense” style D&D game for mobile. The partnership is a natural fit as Backflip shares a common passion for the D&D brand, which is underscored in the recently released Developer Video. The mobile game is set to release in 2015 and additional information will be announced in the coming months.

Beamdog Continues to “Enhance” the Sword Coast

Trent Oster from Beamdog announced Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition is coming to iOS, Android and PC later this year. Trent also revealed two updates for Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, including availability on iPhone and the capacity to have multiplayer work across different platforms. All three Enhanced Editions are classic D&D computer RPGs that have been rebooted for play on modern tablets and PCs.

The biggest and most exciting year for Dungeons & Dragons hits a pivotal moment today as the Tyranny of Dragons storyline kicks-off. This rich new narrative challenges players around the world to rise up against hoards of evil dragons, including Tiamat, the most fearsome dragon in D&D’s history! With a full suite of entertainment offerings already starting to roll-out, and many more exciting launches slated for later this year, Tyranny of Dragons offers action-packed play experiences for digital and tabletop RPG players alike.

The new Tyranny of Dragons module for the highly-acclaimed free-to-play Dungeons & Dragons MMORPG, Neverwinter, is available today. Developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Perfect World Entrainment, the new module will showcase a new character class, the Scourge Warlock, and a new race, Dragonborn.

For players eager to sink their teeth into the Tyranny of Dragons storyline around the gaming table, two new tabletop adventures will also release this year, Hoard of the Dragon Queen on August 19 and The Rise of Tiamat on October 21. In addition, a new line of D&D miniatures from WizKids will be available soon for fans to enhance their Tyranny of Dragons adventures.

With these releases, comes the highly-anticipated new rules for the tabletop roleplaying game, following a two year public playtest that help set the foundation for the future of the franchise. Currently available at select hobby game stores and releasing in wide distribution on August 19, the Player’s Handbook is the first of three “core” rulebooks to be released alongside the Tyranny of Dragons storyline and contains everything players need to create heroic characters. The Player’s Handbook release will be followed by the Monster Manual (September 30) and the Dungeon Master’s Guide (November 18).
