Czech Games Edition Announced as a Gen Con 2021 Co-Sponsor

Gen Con has announced international board game publisher Czech Games Edition (CGE) as a Co-Sponsor of Gen Con 2021. CGE will receive dedicated event space and physical and digital marketing at Gen Con’s upcoming 2021 convention as a part of the agreement.

The publisher has been exhibiting at the convention since 2015, its first year self-publishing its games. That first launched Codenames.

At Gen Con Indy 2021, fans of Czech Games Edition will have an opportunity to get their hands on the newly re-launched edition of Galaxy Trucker, along with Lost Ruins of Arnak and Under Falling Skies — all of which will be making their Gen Con debut. CGE will also have a large demo space with lots of classic CGE titles to check out, including giant editions of Galaxy Trucker and PictoMania. A Galaxy Trucker pin as well as promos for Lost Ruins of Arnak and Under Falling Skies will also be available for visitors to the CGE demo space at the convention.

Czech Games Edition announces the New Solo Game Under Falling Skies

Under Falling Skies

As the mothership descends to complete her conquest of Earth, deadly dropships fill the skies. In your underground research bunker, you are Earth’s last hope.

Under Falling Skies is a brand-new solo game by Tomáš Uhlíř and being released by Czech Games Edition in the third quarter of 2020.

Under Falling Skies is a solo game with a multi-mission campaign. In each mission, you take charge of defending a besieged city.

Your actions are powered by an innovative dice placement mechanic. When you choose an action, you are also choosing which enemy ships will descend. Bigger numbers give better effects, but they also cause ships to descend faster.

Expand your underground base to gain access to more powerful actions, allowing you to shoot down enemy ships or deploy robots to increase your workforce, but don’t forget to work on your research and watch your energy supply.

The mothership draws closer every round, ratcheting up the tension.

The game is for 1 or more players, age 12+ with games taking between 20 and 40 minutes. It’ll retail for $29.95.

Czech Games Launches an App for Letter Jam

Letter Jam

Have you wondered what the codes on the cards in Letter Jam are for? Would you like to add mystery and surprise to your game? Czech Games Edition has you covered with a new app available for iOS and Android.

The game companion app works as a scanner for Letter Jam cards. It prepares a secret word for every player around the table without anyone knowing any of the words! Once the game is over, the app reveals which words were chosen for each player.

The app is available in English, Czech, and German.

If you don’t own the physical game, the app is a reference to give you a better idea of how the game works.

Road to Gen Con 2016: Czech Games Edition's Codenames: Pictures

Codenames Pictures 1Czech Games Edition has announced that Codenames: Pictures will get a pre-release at Gen Con 2016. This is a follow up to Codenames – their best-selling, Golden Geek Award and Spiel des Jahres winning 2015 title.

Codenames: Pictures uses similar mechanics to the original game, but with a few differences:

  • There are nicely drawn pictures instead of words.
  • The grid is 5 × 4, instead of the original 5 × 5.
  • The rules for valid clues are simpler.
  • Each agent now has its own individual image underlining the spy theme.

The 280 black-gray-white pictures have been carefully picked and designed for interesting game play. The pictures usually contain two or more elements that create witty combinations, tell interesting stories, leave some space for imagination, while still being relatively simple for good playability.

They are the work of great artists like Tomáš Kučerovský, David Cochard, and others.

What are these strange symbols on the map? They are coded locations where spies must contact secret agents!

Two rival spymasters know the agent in each location. They deliver coded messages telling their field operatives where to go for clandestine meetings. Operatives must be clever. A decoding mistake could lead to an unpleasant encounter with an enemy agent – or worse, with the assassin!

Both teams race to contact all their agents, but only one team can win.

The game will be pre-released at Gen Con (CGE room 121, 4th–7th August). If someone wants to be sure you get a copy and becomes one of the very first owners of the game, the pre-order form could be used.

As a bonus for this event, you will get five additional agent and bystander tiles, enabling you to play with the original Codenames grids.

The general release date is September 2016 and will also be available directly from CGE at Spiel in Essen in October.
