Games Workshop Pre-Order Previews – Death Guard and the Japanese Malignant Plaguecaster, Warhammer Underworlds, and more

It’s a pretty light week for Games Workshop‘s pre-orders next week with some new releases and as well as a much-in-demand reprint.

Highlighting the week are the Space Marine Heroes 2023 – Death Guard. Games Workshop’s “blind box” range continues with the Death Guard featuring seven figures that were previously available as blind boxes but… the much-wanted Malignant Plaguecaster that was only available in Japan is now a part of the box! If you get an entire case of eight boxes you’re guaranteed to get all seven figures or roll the dice and pick them up individually. Each miniature comes with a detailed base and doesn’t require any glue to assemble.

Games Workshop Delivers an Update on 2021 Releases

Games Workshop

With the future still up in the air, Games Workshop is changing things up for the foreseeable future as far as releases.

Both COVID-19 and Brexit are both looming issues for the game manufacturer imapcting their retail stores, factories, and shipping. There will be delays for December and January, extending the shipping delays so many are familiar with.

First up, Brexit.

Games Workshop has announced that EY fans won’t have to pay more for products due to the England exiting the EU. While details are still being worked out, Games Workshop has pledged to pay any customs and duties fees that apply to orders.

And then there’s COVID…

With delays and shutdowns impacting the company, they have announced they’re now delaying releases and stretching them out for January and February.

Rather than weekly, releases will come every other week with the first pre-orders of 2021 being January 16th.

There will be a new codex or expansion in January, February, and March with Death Guard for Warhammer 40K as the first to be released. A new battletome, with new minis, will be released in February for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. A teaser will be released on Christmas day.

Games Workshop Delays the Death Guard Due to Pestilence

If there was any army to be delayed due to COVID-19, Nurgle and the Death Guard being it has a bit of irony. Games Workshop announced today that they are delaying the release of the next updated army for Warhammer 40K due to COVID-19 concerns and the strains it’s putting on shipments.

The army and its updated codex will now be released in 2021 and it’s unknown what, if any, impact it might have on releases intended for January.

The company has released a new wallpaper to help you show off your loyalty during the delay and the new datahsheet for Mortarion has also been revealed! Check those out and sit back and wait patiently for the sons of Barbarus.

Take Your 40K Battles to War Zone Charadon

During today’s new online preview, Games Workshop revealed the next War Zone to battle it out in Warhammer 40K. War Zone Charadon Act 1: The Book of Rust has Typhus and the Death Guard attempting to claim the forge world Metalica for their own. Standing in their way is the Adeptus Mechanicus.

War Zone Charadon Act 1: The Book of Rust features background about the epic war zone but also new rules for:

  • Death Guard
  • Adeptus Mechanicus
  • Imperial Knights
  • Drukhari

The new Death Guard codex will be releasing soon and it’s unknow what rules will be added here that won’t be found in that book. The Drukhari codex has been revealed to be released in early 2021, so same questions apply to that army as well.

The new codex supplement won’t be the only release. The Plague Purge Mission Pack delivers a host of specific Crusade rules. Create a campaign around the world and gain relics and abilities along the way. It gives a whole new region of space to set campaigns in.
