In collaboration with Fantasy Flight Games, Privateer Press has announced the launch of its second subscription box line—Legend of the Five Rings—under the MiniCrate banner, a service that delivers exclusive limited-edition miniatures directly to players and hobbyists every month. Based on the Legend of the Five Rings property and the recent hit Living Card Game from Fantasy Flight Games, the new MiniCrate subscription series will feature a range of characters from all of Rokugan’s clans.
The first miniature in the series will be the iconic Dragon Clan Champion, Togashi Yokuni. Yokuni was actually the very first Legend of the Five Rings character ever designed by Privateer Press’s founder and Chief Creative Officer Matt Wilson, when he helped create the original setting and card game for AEG over twenty-two years ago.
The MiniCrate Legend of the Five Rings program is offered as a monthly subscription service monthly ($16.99) or as a six-month VIP subscription ($98.99). Subscribers will have automatic rebilling to ensure there are no gaps in their subscriptions. Each shipment contains a single exclusive, limited-edition miniature and a corresponding Collector’s Card featuring the concept art that can only be acquired through the Privateer Press’ MiniCrate program. International costs will vary.
As a special bonus for six-month subscribers, Privateer Press also announced that members who sign up for a six-month MiniCrate subscription will receive a free bonus seventh miniature. Thereafter, with each six-month renewal, subscribers will receive an additional bonus miniature as part of their subscriptions. The first of these bonus minis for Legend of the Five Rings will be one of the fabled Naga Hunters.
Preorders begin this October, and the Togashi Yokuni miniature will be shipped in January 2019.
Each exclusive, limited-edition miniature created for MiniCrate will be produced one time in a single production run.
It should be too much of a surprise but Lando’s Millennium Falcon Expansion Pack is coming to Fantasy Flight Games‘ second edition for X-Wing. Launching out of Solo: A Star Wars Story, this is the Falcon before Han Solo won it. The expansion will be released September 13th, 2018.
This version of the Falcon is for the Scum and Villainy faction and you’ll find everything you need to customize this version of the YT-1300 Light Freighter. That includes eight ship cards including one of Lando Calrissian that allows you to gain a stress token to reroll all of his blank results.
The ship has a double turret arc that functions as the primary weapon. You can enhance the ship with the thirteen upgrade cards such as Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Qi’Ra, Tobias Beckett. It also has some tricks like the ability to dump a fresh obstacle into the battlefield and an escape craft.
The board game publisher Asmodee Group is rumored to be exploring a sale. The potential sale could see the company valued at more than 1.5 billion euros/$1.7 billion. According to Reuters, Guyancourt, a French-based company, owned by private equity firm Eurazeo, has hired investment bankers to run the sale process. Eurazeo owns Asmodee.
The company generates 100 million euros/$119 million in 12-month earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization. Eurazeo took over Asmodee in 2013 for 143 million euros and it is not uncommon for an investment firm to sell in hopes of making a profit.
Asmodee and Eurazeo has been aggressive bringing in new intellectual property and publishing studios. Asmodee includes Fantasy Flight Games, Days of Wonder, Asmodee Studio, Catan Studio, Z-Man Games, Plaid Hat Games, Lookout Games, and more.
