The Kickstarter for the new edition of the acclaimed roleplaying game The One Ring, set in the world of The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien and designed by Francesco Nepitello, has been launched by Free League Publishing. The highly anticipated fantasy game was funded in just 4 minutes.

The new edition for The One Ring roleplaying game, to be published by Free League in partnership with Sophisticated Games, was crowdfunded in only 4 minutes after the launch and has already raised more than $530,000, with 21 days to go.

In the new edition of The One Ring, the year is 2965 of the Third Age, and the players create a Company of heroes seeking adventure in the Lone-lands of Eriador, the region that once saw the glory of the North Kingdom of Arnor.

It is a desolate country, yet it sees the presence of many adventurous folk – Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves and Men. It is here that the One Ring lies, a seed of the past that will one day lead the world to open war against the returning Shadow.

The Enemy is moving, and smoke issues once more from Mount Doom, in the land of Mordor…

For about $36 you can back the project and get the core rules and starter set in a digital format. For $60 you get a hardback edition, the pdf format, stretch goals, and an Alpha pdf version. The campaign ends on March 4 and is expected to ship in November 2021.

Heavy metal mayhem as Mörk Borg is unleashed!

Fish Kill side ad
Mörk Borg

Modiphius has announced the release of the acclaimed Mörk Borg, a doom metal album of a game. A spiked flail to the face. Light on rules, heavy on everything else.

Mörk Borg is from Free League Publishing and is available in print and PDF on Modiphius.net.

Mörk Borg is a pitch-black apocalyptic fantasy RPG about lost souls and fools seeking redemption, forgiveness or the last remaining riches in a bleak and dying world. Who are you? The tomb-robber with silver glittering between cracked fingernails? The mystic who would bend the world’s heart away from it’s inevitable end? Confront power-draining necromancers, skulking skeletal warriors and backstabbing wickheads. Wander the Valley of the Unfortunate Undead, the catacombs beneath the Bergen Chrypt or the bedevilled Sarkash forest. But leave hope behind – the world’s cruel fate is sealed, and all your vain heroic efforts are destined to end in death and dismay. Or are they?

Mörk Borg is a complete game in the OSR genre, that can be played as is or be picked apart for use in your own homebrew. The rules are easily made compatible with most of the editions of the world’s largest role-playing game. Within the book you’ll find:

  • A brief look at this dying world. From The Two-Headed Basilisks’ gothic cathedral in Galgenbeck and Blood-countess Anthelia’s limestone palace, to the fields of death in Graven-Tosk and the barren wastes of Kergüs.
  • The Calendar of Nechrubel, that decides the speed of the world’s demise.
  • 20 occult Powers that let you bend reality, and just as many magical catastrophes for when you disastrously fail.
  • Optional rules which brings more depth to the game. Omens let you turn bad luck into a slightly better one. Classes with unique traits and quirks, and tables that will bring life into your character.
  • 12 creatures to be murdered by.
  • Game master tools such as tables for corpse plundering, occult treasure, adventure sparks, dungeon generating and other devilry.
  • The introductory dungeon crawl scenario Rotblack Sludge, where you investigate a forgotten part of the Shadow King’s enormous ruin palace. Cannibal warlocks, poison peddlers from beyond the void and hungry gutworms await.

Mörk Borg is designed by Pelle Nilsson and Johan Nohr, and published by Free League Publishing.

Twilight: 2000 By Free League Coming to Kickstarter on August 12

Fish Kill side ad
Twilight: 2000

The new edition of the classic roleplaying game Twilight: 2000 will come to Kickstarter on August 12, Free League Publishing has announced. The new edition of Twilight: 2000 goes back to the roots of the franchise with a boxed set for sandbox roleplaying in the devastation of World War III.

Fans can sign up to be notified at the pre-launch page on Kickstarter.

Twilight: 2000 will be released in the first half of 2021, in partnership with Game Designers’ Workshop and Amargosa Press. This will be the fourth edition of the classic apocalyptic RPG, the first being released by Game Designers’ Workshop in 1984. Just like the original version, the new edition is set in a year 2000 devastated by war – now in an alternate timeline where the Moscow Coup of 1991 succeeded and the Soviet Union never collapsed.

In the game, players take roles of survivors in the aftermath of World War III – soldiers or civilians. Their goal, beyond surviving for another day, can be to find a way back home, to carve out their own fiefdom where they are, to find out more about the mysterious Operation Reset, and maybe, just maybe, make the world a little bit better again.

The core gameplay uses a “hexcrawling” system established in the post-apocalyptic Mutant: Year Zero and survival fantasy Forbidden Lands RPGs (both Silver ENnie winners for Best Rules, in 2015 and 2019), developing it further to fit the gritty world of Twilight: 2000. The core rules are built on the Year Zero Engine used in those games (as well as in the ALIEN RPG), but heavily adapted to fit Twilight: 2000 and its focus on gear and gritty realism.
