Free League Publishing Announces The Last Cyclade for Coriolis: The Third Horizon

Coriolis: The Last Cyclade

The epic space adventure The Last Cyclade has been announced by Free League Publishing for the award-winning tabletop roleplaying game Coriolis: The Third Horizon. It’s set to launch on December 8th. Per-orders have started on the Free League website.

Far above in the darkness of space, a lone ship waits to enter the portal. Its crew stands ready to complete their mission: to reach the ghost ship Zafirah first to unveil the truth behind one of the horizon’s most ominous mysteries…

Many months ago, the destroyer Zafirah vanished. Now she is back, in a time of turmoil as the council and authorities are questioned, and people begin to revolt against their oppressors. The throat of the Third Horizon is exposed, and this is when something ancient rises from the shadows.

The arabesque science fiction adventure The Last Cyclade is the second part of the epic game campaign Mercy of the Icons. The adventure is a 240-page hardcover book that includes two new full-length adventures: The Uharan Echo and In the Shadow of the Zenith, four new adventure locations, Mission generator tables to create your own adventures and in-depth background information for the Gamemaster.

The Coriolis roleplaying game offers a unique mix of hard science fiction and mysticism. Do you wish to crew a spaceship and travel to the space station Coriolis set in a remote cluster of star systems? Explore the ancient ruins of the Portal Builders, undertake missions for the powerful factions, and partake in the game of political intrigue. Whatever your calling is, together you will make your own fate. In the end, you might even discover the truth about the mysterious Emissaries and the threat of the Dark Between the Stars in the sci-fi adventure Coriolis: The Third Horizon.

The game was written by Rickard Antroia with art by Gustaf Ekelund, and a cover by Martin Grip.

If you’re new to the game, you can check out the Coriolis: The Third Horizon QuickStart PDF that offers a glimpse of the game world and introduces the basic game rules and the tutorial one-shot adventure Dark Flowers.

Heavy metal mayhem as Mörk Borg is unleashed!

Mörk Borg

Modiphius has announced the release of the acclaimed Mörk Borg, a doom metal album of a game. A spiked flail to the face. Light on rules, heavy on everything else.

Mörk Borg is from Free League Publishing and is available in print and PDF on Modiphius.net.

Mörk Borg is a pitch-black apocalyptic fantasy RPG about lost souls and fools seeking redemption, forgiveness or the last remaining riches in a bleak and dying world. Who are you? The tomb-robber with silver glittering between cracked fingernails? The mystic who would bend the world’s heart away from it’s inevitable end? Confront power-draining necromancers, skulking skeletal warriors and backstabbing wickheads. Wander the Valley of the Unfortunate Undead, the catacombs beneath the Bergen Chrypt or the bedevilled Sarkash forest. But leave hope behind – the world’s cruel fate is sealed, and all your vain heroic efforts are destined to end in death and dismay. Or are they?

Mörk Borg is a complete game in the OSR genre, that can be played as is or be picked apart for use in your own homebrew. The rules are easily made compatible with most of the editions of the world’s largest role-playing game. Within the book you’ll find:

  • A brief look at this dying world. From The Two-Headed Basilisks’ gothic cathedral in Galgenbeck and Blood-countess Anthelia’s limestone palace, to the fields of death in Graven-Tosk and the barren wastes of Kergüs.
  • The Calendar of Nechrubel, that decides the speed of the world’s demise.
  • 20 occult Powers that let you bend reality, and just as many magical catastrophes for when you disastrously fail.
  • Optional rules which brings more depth to the game. Omens let you turn bad luck into a slightly better one. Classes with unique traits and quirks, and tables that will bring life into your character.
  • 12 creatures to be murdered by.
  • Game master tools such as tables for corpse plundering, occult treasure, adventure sparks, dungeon generating and other devilry.
  • The introductory dungeon crawl scenario Rotblack Sludge, where you investigate a forgotten part of the Shadow King’s enormous ruin palace. Cannibal warlocks, poison peddlers from beyond the void and hungry gutworms await.

Mörk Borg is designed by Pelle Nilsson and Johan Nohr, and published by Free League Publishing.

Twilight: 2000 By Free League Coming to Kickstarter on August 12

Twilight: 2000

The new edition of the classic roleplaying game Twilight: 2000 will come to Kickstarter on August 12, Free League Publishing has announced. The new edition of Twilight: 2000 goes back to the roots of the franchise with a boxed set for sandbox roleplaying in the devastation of World War III.

Fans can sign up to be notified at the pre-launch page on Kickstarter.

Twilight: 2000 will be released in the first half of 2021, in partnership with Game Designers’ Workshop and Amargosa Press. This will be the fourth edition of the classic apocalyptic RPG, the first being released by Game Designers’ Workshop in 1984. Just like the original version, the new edition is set in a year 2000 devastated by war – now in an alternate timeline where the Moscow Coup of 1991 succeeded and the Soviet Union never collapsed.

In the game, players take roles of survivors in the aftermath of World War III – soldiers or civilians. Their goal, beyond surviving for another day, can be to find a way back home, to carve out their own fiefdom where they are, to find out more about the mysterious Operation Reset, and maybe, just maybe, make the world a little bit better again.

The core gameplay uses a “hexcrawling” system established in the post-apocalyptic Mutant: Year Zero and survival fantasy Forbidden Lands RPGs (both Silver ENnie winners for Best Rules, in 2015 and 2019), developing it further to fit the gritty world of Twilight: 2000. The core rules are built on the Year Zero Engine used in those games (as well as in the ALIEN RPG), but heavily adapted to fit Twilight: 2000 and its focus on gear and gritty realism.

Modiphius Releases the Symbaroum Game Master’s Guide

Symbaroum Game Master’s Guide

Modiphius has announced the release of the Symbaroum Game Master’s Guide, a brand new release for the awesome Swedish dark fantasy RPG.

The Symbaroum Game Master’s Guide is available in print and PDF as part of the Symbaroum Collection on Modiphius.net.

Here are the details on this intriguing new release, an essential addition for GMs and one that rounds out the entire Symbaroum core book releases and brings a wealth of additional information and guidance for GMs looking to extend their players’ adventures in the realms of Davokar and Ambria.

It was dead silent in the ranks, so breathlessly tense that the creaking of our leather armor felt deafening; just as silent as our Davokar outpost had been for the past three weeks. Even the sellswords that our Lord had hired in an attempt to tip the scales in his favor seem to appreciate the gravity of the situation – they made up the rear of the column, atypically in line, unusually disciplined. Silent.

We had no idea what to expect. The scouts had not come back, neither the first, nor the second troupe that had left for the outpost. Some homing pigeons belonging to the latter returned, but without information about what had happened. Was it a belligerent branch of Clan Karohar? A raving liege troll or a pack of predators? An ancient or dark contagion, or indeed some roaming abomination?

The truth proved even worse: Iron Pact warriors, backed by Ironsworn barbarians. They attacked without question, without hesitation, without mercy – out of the shadows, from the foliage, from behind root and stem and stone. My advice to you who are to inherit my Lord’s domain is simple: Let yourself settle for what can be harvested under open skies; that which is shadowed by the trees of Davokar is not yours to own or salvage. Accept this, or join the ranks of the dea…

With the Game Master’s Guide, Symbaroum’s collection of core books is complete! Between its covers are three solid sections, meant to inspire and support Game Masters when it comes to everything from the creation of homebrew adventures to managing sessions around the gaming table. No matter if you choose to embrace it all or only pick the goodies out of the cake, the tips and alternative rules presented in this book will certainly help make adventures in Symbaroum’s game world even more spicy, thrilling and memorable.

Featured content:

  • The Adventure section, with chapters on the design of game worlds, chronicles, adventure landscapes and of adventures set in the Underworld, Yonderworld and Spirit World. It also offers tips regarding how to construct scenarios for experienced player characters, and guidelines for Troupe Play in Symbaroum.
  • The Challenges section, containing alternative rules for pitched battles, advanced traps and social challenges. Adding to this are chapters on Ceremonial Magic (including sixteen ceremonies), expeditions in Davokar, exploration of ruins, the design of legendary creatures and rules for handling player characters owning and managing an estate or smaller domain.
  • The Rewards Section, which offers suggestions on different ways of rewarding player characters and their players, aside from Experience and shiny coins. The chapters also present guidelines for designing what in Symbaroum are called Curiosities, Mystical Treasures and Artifacts, after which the book is rounded off with the description of no less than twenty seven artifacts – all of them with a unique adventure set-up.
  • Note that this book requires access to the Symbaroum Core Rulebook, and that it does not come into its own without the Advanced Player’s Guide and the Symbaroum Monster Codex.
