Urban Operations Announced for Twilight: 2000 RPG

Twilight: 2000 - Urban Operations

Free League has announced Urban Operations, the first expansion for the recently released new edition of RPG classic Twilight: 2000

Twilight: 2000 – Urban Operations is a modular expansion focused on cities. The expansion is loosely based on the classic module Free City of Krakow for the first edition of Twilight: 2000 RPG, but designed to be used in any city environment. Krakow is described in it as one example town, another being Karlsborg in Sweden.

The expansion will include guidelines for playing in cities, new factions, new scenario sites, and introducing several plots to create longer story arcs. It will be a boxed set with a scenario book, city maps, scenario site maps, modular battle maps for urban environments, and new encounter cards for urban environments.

A pre-order will be launched in the Free League webshop in Q1. Pre-orders will give instant access to the full PDF of the expansion, ahead of the physical release in Q3 2022.

THE ONE RING CORE RULES

Enter the world of Middle-earth with The One Ring, the official tabletop roleplaying game based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Designed specifically to evoke the atmosphere of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the game contains rules for creating heroes and sending them off on adventures in a land threatened by the growing Shadow.

This full-colour hardcover manual presents Middle-earth as it was twenty years after Bilbo Baggins’ remarkable disappearance and unexpected return. The great events narrated in The Lord of the Rings are still fifty years away, leaving plenty of room to narrate stories worthy of an epic. Now in its second edition, The One Ring comes with updated and revised rules, a new visual style, and a focus on the land of Eriador — the lone-lands west of the Misty Mountains.

Roleplay the WW3 That Never Was with the Twilight: 2000 RPG

Twilight: 2000

Survive in mankind’s most desperate hour. The World War III that never was is here. Free League Publishing has released the new edition of the Twilight: 2000 roleplaying game, published in partnership with Game Designers’ Workshop (GDW) and Amargosa Press.

The launch includes both a massive boxed set as well as a PDF version on DrivthruRPG and a Virtual Tabletop edition on Foundry VTT. The new retro-apocalyptic edition of Twilight: 2000 goes back to the roots of the franchise with open-world roleplaying in the devastation of World War III. Just like the original 1984 edition, this new game is set in a year 2000 devastated by war – now in an alternate timeline where the Soviet Union never collapsed.

Even in this bleak world, there is still hope. In the midst of utter destruction, you take on the role of a survivor in the aftermath of World War III – soldier or civilian.  Your goal, beyond surviving for another day, can be to find a way back home, rally people to your ranks, and find out more about the mysterious Operation Reset. And maybe, if you live long enough, you have a shot at turning the tide.

Twilight: 2000 boxed version includes:

  • A 152-page Player’s Manual, including rules for character generation, skills, specialties, combat, base building, and travel
  • A 112-page Referee’s Manual, describing a world at war and including 52 ready-to-play encounters and four complete scenario sites
  • A huge 864 x 558mm double-sided full-color hexagon travel map
  • 15 engraved custom dice, including ammo dice and a hit location die
  • 16 modular battle maps, designed to create an endless variety of battlefields.
  • Four battle maps for specific scenario sites
  • 108 cardboard tokens for fighters, vehicles, conditions, and more
  • 52 encounter cards
  • 10 initiative cards
  • Five blank character sheets ready to be filled in
Twilight: 2000

The core gameplay uses a “hexcrawling” system established in the post-apocalyptic Mutant: Year Zero and survival fantasy Forbidden Lands RPGs (both Silver ENNIE winners for Best Rules, in 2015 and 2019).

The core rules are built on the Year Zero Engine used in those games (as well as in the ALIEN RPG, winner of the Gold ENNIE for Best Game 2020), but heavily adapted to fit Twilight: 2000 and its focus on gear and realism.

The virtual tabletop modules of Twilight: 2000 on Foundry are fully integrated with the VTT platform with online maps and diagrams, player handouts ready to share, and more. The modules are available as stand-alone digital products as well as in print & virtual bundles in the Free League webshop. A Foundry base license is required to use the VTT modules.

Forbidden Lands: Book of Beasts & The Bloodmarch Launches on Kickstarter

Forbidden Lands The Bloodmarch and Book of Beasts

Rejoice! Monsters and demons are roaming the land! Free League Publishing has launched its crowdfunding campaign – a double-feature for the multiple award-winning RPG Forbidden Lands. The time has come to fight murderous monsters and explore the demon-infested lands of the west.

Brace yourself, because the Kickstarter offers two major expansions:

  • Book of Beasts, a bestiary you can play, beautifully illustrated and filled to the brim with murderous monsters and lethal encounters.
  • The Bloodmarch, a campaign book expanding the game world and including a full campaign – Legacy of Horn.

Forbidden Lands: Book of Beast

Forbidden Lands: Book of Beasts is a bestiary you can play. It presents at least twenty-five new monsters in great detail, with further bonus monsters unlocked as stretch goals. Each beast comes ready to play with tailored random encounters, presenting the Gamemaster with a handy set of mini-adventures to go.

The book also includes legends about each monster, introduces the option to harvest resources from slain beasts, and lets players use their Lore skills to gain insight into a monster´s strengths and weaknesses. This will help you and your fellow adventurers to defeat – or at least survive – an encounter with the book´s monstrosities.

Among the monsters within these covers you will find the Amphibian, the Basilisk, the Iron Dragon, the Twisted Ent, and many more, ready for use in any Forbidden Lands campaign.

Forbidden Lands: Book of Beasts is penned by seasoned game writers Andreas Marklund and acclaimed Swedish fantasy author Erik Granström, gloriously illustrated by Henrik Rosenborg and with graphics by Niklas Brandt.

The Bloodmarch

With this expansion, Forbidden Lands will become even stranger.  The Bloodmarch is the name given to the volcanic region west of Ravenland, accessible as the Shadowgate Pass is again opened. This ancient land of battle-ready horse riders and secretive dwarves is rapidly changing due to the demonic vegetation spreading across the land. Most see this red curse as a threat to all that is good, while others view it as a good thing – or at least a necessary evil needed to reach other goals.

You will be able to choose a side, or side with yourself, as the Legacy of Horn campaign sets explorers on a hunt for Horn´s Astra, a legendary set of artifacts sought by many in the ashen land. These powerful items are said to be able to stop the demonic growth, or be powerful enough to ensure its triumph.

The Bloodmarch and the Legacy of Horn are written by acclaimed Swedish fantasy author Erik Granström, lead setting writer for Forbidden Lands RPG and designer of the game’s first campaign module, Raven´s Purge. The Bloodmarch is illustrated by Henrik Rosenborg.
