D&D Announces Their Extra Life Team

dndlogoFor the second year in a row, Dungeons & Dragons will be returning to the Extra Life fundraising/gaming event! On October 25-26, members of the D&D team (and friends!) will run the second annual D&D game marathon, helping to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.

The tabletop roleplaying game will be live-streamed on the D&D Twitch TV channel starting at 8 AM PST on Saturday, October 25. Senior Producer for D&D R&D, Greg Bilsland, will serve as Dungeon Master, running a rotating group of players through the recently released Hoard of the Dragon Queen tabletop adventure for 24 hours using the D&D fifth edition rules set.

Other members of the D&D Extra Life team include Rodney Thompson (designer for the D&D fifth edition tabletop roleplaying game rules set and the Lords of Waterdeep board game), Chris Dupuis (D&D game designer), Emi Tanji (D&D graphic designer), James Wyatt and Gavin Verhey (game & experience designers, Magic: The Gathering), all from Wizards of the Coast. Special guests include Keith Baker (creator, Eberron setting), Erin M. Evans (author of the upcoming, Fire in the Blood novel) Jeremy Petter (LoadingReadyRun) and Mike Selinker (president, Lone Shark Games).

The D&D Player’s Handbook is Available Today!

Players Handbook - Cover ArtToday marks the release by Wizards of the Coast of the first of three core rulebooks for the highly-anticipated Dungeons & Dragons Tyranny of Dragons storyline. Optimized for fifth edition of the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop roleplaying game, the Player’s Handbook contains everything players need to create heroic characters with rich backgrounds and compelling capabilities, ready for adventure.

Also released today, Hoard of the Dragon Queen is the first of two adventures in the Tyranny of Dragons story arc. This adventure provides everything a Dungeon Master needs to create an exciting and memorable experience. Players can get a sample of what this product has in store through the D&D Encounters in-store play program.

The Player’s Handbook and Hoard of the Dragon Queen are just the beginning of the many releases that will be rolling-out this year.

The biggest and most exciting year for Dungeons & Dragons hits a pivotal moment today as the Tyranny of Dragons storyline kicks-off. This rich new narrative challenges players around the world to rise up against hoards of evil dragons, including Tiamat, the most fearsome dragon in D&D’s history! With a full suite of entertainment offerings already starting to roll-out, and many more exciting launches slated for later this year, Tyranny of Dragons offers action-packed play experiences for digital and tabletop RPG players alike.

The new Tyranny of Dragons module for the highly-acclaimed free-to-play Dungeons & Dragons MMORPG, Neverwinter, is available today. Developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Perfect World Entrainment, the new module will showcase a new character class, the Scourge Warlock, and a new race, Dragonborn.

For players eager to sink their teeth into the Tyranny of Dragons storyline around the gaming table, two new tabletop adventures will also release this year, Hoard of the Dragon Queen on August 19 and The Rise of Tiamat on October 21. In addition, a new line of D&D miniatures from WizKids will be available soon for fans to enhance their Tyranny of Dragons adventures.

With these releases, comes the highly-anticipated new rules for the tabletop roleplaying game, following a two year public playtest that help set the foundation for the future of the franchise. Currently available at select hobby game stores and releasing in wide distribution on August 19, the Player’s Handbook is the first of three “core” rulebooks to be released alongside the Tyranny of Dragons storyline and contains everything players need to create heroic characters. The Player’s Handbook release will be followed by the Monster Manual (September 30) and the Dungeon Master’s Guide (November 18).
