Games Workshop Pre-Order Preview: Arks of Omen begins with new 40K Battleforces

Games Workshop is kicking off 2023 with a bang! Warhammer 40,000 gets the spotlight with a lot of releases that might shake up the game in the new year.

Arks of Omen begins with its first volume “Abaddon“. The book will be available in standard and collectors’ editions and kicks off a new story. The Despoiler is teaming with the daemon Vashtorr the Arkifane for his latest scheme.

It introduces new rules and missions for Boarding Actions, a new way to play the game.

But, to play a game that’s supposed to take place on a spaceship, you’ll need a board to play on. The Boarding Actions Terrain Set allows you to do that quickly. It features two double-sided game boards and 68 pieces of modular terrain.

If larger games are your thing, Chapter Approved: Arks of Omen: Grand Tournament Mission Pack will be available. It’s the complete guide to matched play for the first half of 2023. It features revised tournament missions, new and updated secondary objectives for every faction, and a brand-new Detachment that gives even more flexibility when building armies.

The Scions of Macragge Battleforce box features two heroes, Intercessors, Hellblasters, and Bladeguard Veterans.

New Space Marine Heroes is out and features six different Space Marines to collect in blind bags. It’s a random one you’ll get or buy a box and get all six with two extras! You can paint them as any Chapter and you have a choice of helmeted or bare head when you build them.

When it comes to Warhammer: The Horus Heresy the Salamanders and Word Bearers get the spotlight. Each gets a Made to Order set with the Salamanders getting five torsos for Mark III armor. The Word Bearers set is designed for Mark IV armor. Both legions get should pads, Mark II and Mark IV for Salamanders and Mark II and Mark III for the Word Bearers.

Blood Bowl gets some releases with the return of two classic characters. Nobbla Blackwart and Scrappa Sorehead are back with two brand-new miniatures to unleash their mayhem on the field. They can play for Badlands Brawl and Underworlds Challenge teams.

Black Library kicks off the year with some releases.

Mortis, book five in the Siege of Terra series arrives. The book by John French sees Titans and their crews step to the forefront of the story.

Also out is a large-scale map reproduction of the one found in the book. Printed on cotton, it measures 596mm x 420mm. It’s secured with a leather cord and metal pendant featuring the sigil of the Titan Legions.

A new tale featuring the Flesh Tearers, Wrath of the Lost, also is being released. Written by Chris Forrester, a force returns to their home world of Cretacia to discover what has happened to their befallen brethren there. It’ll be available in hardback, eBook, and MP3 audiobook.

Games Workshop reveals four new Space Marine Battleforces

Games Workshop has revealed four new ways to quickly build your Space Marine forces with new battleforces. Iron Hands, Salamanders, White Scars, and Ultramarines each are getting sets tailored to their style of play and background.

Each set features upgrade sprues and transfer sheets to help you build your chapter.

The Iron Hands: March of Iron Strike Force features two Redemptor Dreadnoughts, a Primaris Techmarine, Iron Father Feirros, and 10 Intercessors.

Space Marines and Necrons invade Games Workshop Next Week

With the 9th Edition of Warhammer 40,000 here, the new releases for the “starter” armies are beginning to trickle out. Next week’s pre-orders from Games Workshop have been revealed and Space Marine and Necron players have a lot to look forward to.
