Alan Robert’s The Beauty of Horror Tarot Card Set has 12 Hours to Fund on Kickstarter

The Beauty of Horror Tarot Card

IDW and Alan Robert are expanding the bestselling line of coloring books, The Beauty of Horror, with a devilishly delightful Tarot Card Set — available to order right now as part of a Kickstarter campaign! The campaign has just 12 hours to go to reach its funding goal.

This first-ever Beauty of Horror Kickstarter gives fans of coloring books, mystical predictions, and macabre monsters the opportunity to acquire the Tarot Card Set as either a fully-colored card deck or a black-and-white deck perfect for coloring! And, of course, there’s also the option for the most dedicated devotee of divination to get both sets — because why should you have to choose?

The Beauty of Horror Tarot Card
  • The “Fear Your Future” Deck is a traditional tarot set featuring art by Alan Robert and pre-colored by Jay Fotos, measuring the standard tarot card size of 70mm x 120mm and including a guidebook.
  • The “Color Your Destiny” Deck follows the Beauty of Horror adult coloring book tradition by offering tarot cards, printed on premium cardstock paper, with line art by Alan Robert. Oversized for best illustrative results, these cards measure 90mm x 154mm and come packaged with a guidebook.
The Beauty of Horror Tarot Card Set

Inspired by the classic Rider-Waite tarot deck published in 1910, Alan Robert has fashioned the Beauty of Horror Tarot Card Set with 78 cards per deck, with 22 Major Arcana cards (featuring such classic cards as The Magician, The Lovers, The Hanged Man, and more, plus a special appearance of Beauty of Horror icon Ghouliana as The Empress) and 56 Minor Arcana cards.

Supporters of this crowdfunding campaign will receive several free “Ghouliana’s Ghastly Gifts” as a reward, many of which will be exclusive through Kickstarter! In addition to these special gifts with purchase, fans will have an opportunity to upgrade their experience with a Beauty of Horror themed tarot cloth as well as a “Draw Your Own Terror” deck.

We’ve also been provided exclusive commentary from Robert about Beauty of Horror and its terrifying influences.

Q: Where do all of these fantastic gory images originate from? Do you picture these images in your dreams (or nightmares)?

Alan Robert: I think I’ve always had a bit of a twisted sensibility… it’s in my DNA, and I have definitely had some vivid and extremely graphic dreams in my life that have influenced my art over the years. I can think back to my high school days of drawing horrific monsters in my notebook sitting inside the school cafeteria. My friends would hover around me to see what gory scene I’d draw up next… Man, I’ve been into horror for as long as I can remember. I’m also a product of all the 80s horror flicks… which certainly didn’t help the situation! My favorites back then were A Nightmare on Elm Street and Hellraiser, Evil Dead, The Thing, Chainsaw Massacre, and all the zombie Living Dead movies. Later on, I got into the more psychological horror like The Shining and Jacobs Ladder.  But, the one movie that really got me into horror… the one movie that made the biggest impact on me was The Amityville Horror

I begged my parents to watch that movie when it came on HBO for the first time in the 80s, but I had never seen an R-rated movie at that early age. It came on and I literally lasted about 30 seconds. The opening title credits with the haunting chants scared the pants off of me and I ran back to my room to hide under the covers. The thing that scarred me the worst was that I was forced to listen to the entire movie through the thin walls of our Brooklyn home! I think my imagination went wild and proved to be WAY scarier than the actual movie. I STILL remember how scared I was that night. I think that one event triggered my entire fascination with horror.

Q: When you were little, what were you afraid of?

AR: Living in a rough part of Brooklyn in the 70s and early 80s, I think I was probably most afraid of getting robbed or beaten up by street gangs in the neighborhood. A bunch of my friends had been jumped by that point, waiting for the bus, and my bike had been stolen from my backyard shed, so I remember feeling pretty scared about that… especially riding the subway to school.

Q: Can you share a quick story about Halloween in your own life? Is there a page in your newest book (The Beauty of Horror: Tricks and Treats) that reminds you of that?

AR: I can remember a few times as a kid, watching a horror movie in my room and seeing something strange out of the corner of my eye, as if I was being watched. Sometimes it turned out just to be my own reflection in my pet lizard’s tank. But there was this one night around Halloween… I was like 16 or so, where I was in bed, getting ready to doze off and I felt a finger touch my nose. I immediately jumped out of bed and turned all the lights on. I tore the place apart looking for someone hiding in my closet or the bathroom. I was absolutely convinced that someone was there and was messing with me. But once I came to the realization that I was alone, I got really scared. Was it a ghost that was trying to connect with me? It makes me wonder what really happened that night. Everyone knows the feeling of a touch… this was not the feeling of a blanket or a pillow that accidentally touched my face… it felt like a finger!

There is a page in The Beauty of Horror “Tricks and Treats” coloring book where Ghouliana is seen grabbing a doll out of the hands of an unhappy girl through the reflection in a mirror. This ghostly connection of an evil spirit reaching through a mirror into the human world kind of reminds me of that night.

Archon Studio Takes Over the Starfinder Miniatures License Replacing Ninja Division

Paizo has announced that Archon Studio will be taking over the license for Starfinder Masterclass miniatures, formerly produced by Ninja Division. As part of the agreement, Archon Studio will fulfill backer rewards for the Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures Kickstarter.

Archon Studio will be producing plastic miniatures instead of resin. They will also be starting over with Kickstarter fulfillment; this means that backers who have already received resin miniatures from Ninja Division will receive those minis again from Archon Studio, this time in plastic.

Archon Studio will also be creating all-new Starfinder Masterclass miniatures. Each month, they plan to produce 4 or 5 of the minis announced during the Kickstarter plus 1 brand-new mini. These minis will be available for sale at your favorite local game store, on archon-studio.com, and on paizo.com. (The Kickstarter-exclusive miniatures of Candy, Cola, Seelah the Paladin, and Epic Obazaya will not be available at retail.)

Archon Studio plans to ship Kickstarter rewards in waves. Approximately every 6 months, the pledge rewards produced during the previous 6 months will be shipped to backers free of charge. Additionally, any time a Kickstarter backer purchases any Starfinder mini from Archon Studio—whether that’s a new mini or a duplicate of a Kickstarter mini—they will also ship any released Kickstarter miniatures due to that backer for no additional charge. Details of which minis are shipping when, and how to purchase other miniatures, will be posted on the Kickstarter page.

Archon Studio will be fulfilling backers in Europe, and Ninja Division will be shipping to the rest of the world. Paizo does not have specific answers to fulfillment questions: if you’re a backer with a question about your order, you’ll need to post the question to the Starfinder Masterclass Kickstarter page.

Calliope Games Launches Tsuro: Phoenix Rising on Kickstarter

Tsuro: Phoenix Rising

Tsuro: Phoenix Rising is now live on Kickstarter. The game for 2-8 players is from Calliope Games which is celebrating their 10 year anniversary.

The game is a follow up to Tsuro: The Game of the Path and has each player playing as a phoenix, soaring across the bard hoping to reach glowing lanterns and transform them into new stars in the night sky. The first player to collect seven star tokens wins the game.

In the game, you place tiles to extend the path, traverse the board, but be aware of your surroundings. The game has new features such as diagonal movement and can be flipped and rotated to help choose your destination. It also comes with a molded board. The game also takes advantage of the idea of the phoenix allowing players to rise from the ashes and return to the board once per game.

The game is for 2-8 players, ages 8+, and plays 20-60 minutes.

The campaign runs until February 9.

Dynamite Launches Kickstarter for First Pathfinder Resin Statue

Image Created by Iconasys Shutter Stream

Dynamite Entertainment has announced a Kickstarter campaign for the first-ever resin statue for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. This continues the publisher’s long partnership with Paizo Inc. following years of expanding the lore of the game’s world through comics. Backers can preorder their copies of the limited-edition statue and bundle in a range of extras currently available only through the Kickstarter.

Seoni, one of the most popular iconic heroes in the Pathfinder universe, was an obvious choice for the statue. The powerful Varisian spellcaster is perfect with her intricate tattoos and patterned clothing. The high-quality resin statue stands approximately 12 inches tall. The tattoos and other details like “dirt” and battle damage are all hand painted.

The statue is available in multiple variants. A “Spellcasting” edition portrays Seoni using her signature magic using a plastic energy effect. The “Battle Ready” edition swaps that out for her staff and an alternate pose. The Spellcasting version is available unpainted for the DIY enthusiasts.

Supporters can choose among a range of reward tier options, including Dynamite’s well-received comics, from the recent Spiral of Bones series to a complete set of nine graphic novel volumes – over 1,600 pages of Pathfinder content! Another option is the campaign setting book Sandpoint, Light of the Lost Coast signed by author James Jacobs. And of course, t-shirts! Or go big and get all the above!

Most exciting is the opportunity for tabletop devotees to collaborate with Dynamite and a professional sculptor to develop and create 10 custom pewter miniatures up to 35 millimeters tall.

Braine Games Kickstarts Mutated, a Secret Role Social Deduction Game

From the makers of Alien Entity comes a new game! Braine Games has announced Mutated, a secret role social deduction game that is part of the Alien Entity series.
Players are a part of a repair crew aboard a spaceship when an explosion in the lab releases a mutated alien virus. The team must escape before getting infected with the virus, and figure out who among them is the alien!

You’ll use different options like social deduction cards, infrared goggles and 3-D maps, eliminate players as a group by ejecting teammates out of the airlock into space, and by using weapons like the Sizzler.

New events, like a Reactor Meltdown, make the challenge even more difficult.

Every bad decision you make brings your team closer to going crazy in space and failure.

You can support the game now through Kickstarter at MUTATED, the next game in the Alien Entity series. If you are attending Gen Con you can find them at booth #2050 where you can play a round of the new game.

Hellboy: The Board Game Gets a Hellboy in Mexico Expansion

Mantic Games has revealed a new add-on expansion to Hellboy: The Board Game which is currently running on Kickstarter. The expansion is a new scenario based on a classic Hellboy story, one of his more fun and wild adventures.

Hellboy in Mexico tells the story of Hellboy’s five-month “drunken weekend” in which he teamed with luchadores to fight vampires, wore some awesome outfits, got married, and drank a lot of tequila.

This expansion includes two new scenarios, four new playable heroes, new items, five new enemy types, a new boss, Mexico-themed tiles, and a new Deck of Doom.

Luchadores people!

This expansion won’t be a standard retail release and will be a one print only limited edition. There’ll be enough copies to fulfill the Kickstarter backer and retail pledges with a slight overprint for shows and events. It’s not an Kickstarter exclusive in that way but Kickstarter is the easiest way to get it.

You can get the Hellboy in Mexico Expansion for £35.
