Marvel Comes to Mondo and Restoration Games’ Unmatched

Mondo and Restoration Games have teamed up with Marvel to create several additions to their Unmatched line of miniatures dueling tabletop games planned for release beginning in the summer of 2021. Four new sets have been announced:

  • Redemption Row – featuring Luke Cage, Ghost Rider, and Moon Knight
  • Hell’s Kitchen – featuring Daredevil, Elektra, and Bullseye
  • Teen Spirit – featuring Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, and Cloak and Dagger
  • For King and Country – featuring Black Widow, Black Panther, and Winter Soldier

Unmatched veteran artists Heather Vaughan, Oliver Barrett, and Ian O’Toole will be joined by Matt Taylor and Sanford Greene as the key illustrators for the line. The combined weight of their contributions to the worlds of gaming, comics, and entertainment is staggering; fans can expect each standalone title to be as visually impactful as they are mechanically sound.

Since debuting at Gen Con in August of 2019, Unmatched has released seven titles featuring 19 heroes sourced from myth, literature, television, and movies – presenting players with nearly two hundred possible 2-player battle scenarios. The upcoming Marvel editions will offer 66 possible in-world combat pairings and will feature unique gameplay additions building off the core game ruleset.

Bluff Your Movie Knowledge with King of Movies: The Leonard Maltin Game

King of Movies: The Leonard Maltin Game

For forty years, Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide served as the film geek’s Holy Bible, an annually updated softcover brick of a reference book, packed with thoughtful, witty, and occasionally weird capsule reviews of thousands of films. Those synopses are at the heart of King of Movies: The Leonard Maltin Game, a tabletop casual party game of creative invention and hilarious deception.

In King of Movies, it doesn’t matter if you’ve seen every film ever made or if you’ve never seen a movie in your life. The fun is in the fibbing. One player reads a movie title and the other players invent a short synopsis in Leonard Maltin’s unique style, with the goal being to trick the other players into thinking theirs is the real Maltin review. If you choose the real Maltin or you fool another player, you score.

Featuring handsome packaging with art by Mondo all-star Matt Taylor, the game contains everything you need to play the game with up to six players.

Stuck at home, apart from your movie-loving friends? Not a problem. One person can own the physical game and everyone else can easily play along via Zoom with the King of Movies app for iOS and Android.

If your synopsis is extra creative, your insane/brilliant/outrageous movie idea might just become a future cinematic sensation. Snap a photo of your best and most creative King of Movies synopses and post them to Twitter and Instagram with #MaltinKingofMovies. On January 1st of each year, Leonard Maltin himself (!!!) will choose one synopsis that will be officially optioned by Drafthouse Films. King of Movies: The Leonard Maltin Game is available for pre-order.

The game is for 2-6 players, ages 3+. It’s designed by Ant Timpson, art by Matt Taylor, produced by Tim League and Mondo Games, and written and edited by Zack Carlson. It’s expected to ship in September 2020 and retails for $25.
