MÖRK BORG Mystery Box IKHON Coming February 28

MÖRK BORG: IKHON

Forged by the left hand of Nechrubel, bound in cured skin and soot-black wood, the ancient god-vessels known as IKHONs are detested by the Two-Headed Basilisks. Wielding their Powers, unfettering the Profane Profound shackled within is a serious heretical crime and whoever may carry these blackened shrines will be forever hunted by the inquisition. But perhaps it is worth it.

Free League Publishing and Stockholm Kartell have announced MÖRK BORG: IKHON. This new module for the hit indie old-school RPG MÖRK BORG will be released on February 28. A pre-order giving early access to a complete PDF is now live in the Free League webshop.

IKHON is a mystery box for MÖRK BORG. A gaol keeping four almost-forgotten folk gods at bay; the Bilkherd, the Becklure, the Old Dead and the dreaded Silkfiend. Those who dare commune with them are promised great rewards. But life and death go hand in hand and too small a sacrifice could be perceived as an insult. This gift could very well be a curse.

Contents:

  • Boxed set with rules on how to unfetter the Profane Profound.
  • Four tracts, one for each god-creature, detailing their gifts and punishments.
  • Written by Pelle Nilsson but torn apart and rebuilt in a stranger, darker form by Fiona Maeve Geist and Jarrett Crader of the MoonRat Conspiracy.
  • Over 40 full-page illustrations by the masterful Paraguayan artist Samuel Araya, whose oil paintings will bring the Profane Profound to blasphemous life.

MÖRK BORG is designed by Pelle Nilsson (Ockult Örtmästare Games) and Johan Nohr (Stockholm Kartell), published by Free League Publishing.

MÖRK BORG Cult: Heretic and GM Screen are out now!

MÖRK BORG Cult: Heretic

Free League Publishing has announced the release of the expansion MÖRK BORG Cult: Heretic, a zine of community-made misadventure and malice for use with MÖRK BORG or any other rules-light dark fantasy RPG. The expansion has been released alongside a GM Screen.

The tome MÖRK BORG Cult: Heretic includes creatures, classes, optional rules and generators as well as four adventures; Nurse the Rot, Graves Left Wanting, Sepulchre of the Swamp Witch and Bloat. MÖRK BORG GM Screen will also be released alongside this evil tome.

In the heinous tome of curses and hexes, you’ll find:

  • Seeds of a CVLT. Use this to generate cults, their leaders, beliefs, and spiritual home.
  • Unheroic Feats. Enhance and personalize your classless characters with these optional advancement rules.
  • Graves Left Wanting. A campaign-starting or post-TPK tombcrawl adventure where the PCs find themselves buried alive in the vast, ever-changing cemetery Graven-Tosk.
  • Bloat. Villagers disappear. Tracks lead to an underground temple of bacchanalian frenzy, reeking of rot, offal, and bile. A two-page dungeon for the peckish.
  • You are Cursed. So, you opened the puzzle box, whistled in the old mine, or carelessly removed the protecting wards? These curses will be the consequence. Luckily, there are ways to break them, but it comes at a cost.
  • The Merchant. Cursed with eternal life and destined to roam the world trading shards of souls for ruinous relics. You never know when this mysterious monger might appear. Will you make a deal?
  • Blackpowder Weapons for the Rich and Foolhardy. The world is ending, so let’s end it with a BANG. These optional rules are the spark that adds fire- to your fights.
  • Sepulchre of the Swamp Witch. In a hidden repository deep in the Slithering Swamp is a witch’s altar of glyph-covered roots. They say it can fulfill any wish. Could stopping the approaching Doom be within its powers? Only one way to find out.
  • The Bone Bowyer. This horrid fey lurks in the tangled depths of Sarkash where it fashions heart-seeking bone bows and blood-dyed cloaks from the flesh of the lost.
  • Borg Bitor. Vile, insectoid parasites creeping into houses and nurseries come nighttime. There is a baby. There is an egg. Don’t let them become one.
  • Rotting Nurse. Ghastly caretakers tormented by the eternal punishment for unforgivable atrocities. This foe is beyond any of you. Run!
  • Nurse the Rot. As you put Mother Marathuk—one of you dreg’s aunt—to rest, the village Tunstal sinks into darkness, leaving it to its doom unless something is done.
  • Two additional, optional classes: The bastard of a bard Sacrilegious Songbird and the Shedding Vicar, a fanatic preaching the skinless gosp.
MÖRK BORG GM Screen

The MÖRK BORG GM Screen is a five-paneled portrait, printed with gold metallic ink on one side and vivid neon yellow on the other. The front is all art, five scenes of various locales and important characters. The GM-facing side sports a wide array of tables and rules summaries that might come in handy during play.

Heavy metal mayhem as Mörk Borg is unleashed!

Mörk Borg

Modiphius has announced the release of the acclaimed Mörk Borg, a doom metal album of a game. A spiked flail to the face. Light on rules, heavy on everything else.

Mörk Borg is from Free League Publishing and is available in print and PDF on Modiphius.net.

Mörk Borg is a pitch-black apocalyptic fantasy RPG about lost souls and fools seeking redemption, forgiveness or the last remaining riches in a bleak and dying world. Who are you? The tomb-robber with silver glittering between cracked fingernails? The mystic who would bend the world’s heart away from it’s inevitable end? Confront power-draining necromancers, skulking skeletal warriors and backstabbing wickheads. Wander the Valley of the Unfortunate Undead, the catacombs beneath the Bergen Chrypt or the bedevilled Sarkash forest. But leave hope behind – the world’s cruel fate is sealed, and all your vain heroic efforts are destined to end in death and dismay. Or are they?

Mörk Borg is a complete game in the OSR genre, that can be played as is or be picked apart for use in your own homebrew. The rules are easily made compatible with most of the editions of the world’s largest role-playing game. Within the book you’ll find:

  • A brief look at this dying world. From The Two-Headed Basilisks’ gothic cathedral in Galgenbeck and Blood-countess Anthelia’s limestone palace, to the fields of death in Graven-Tosk and the barren wastes of Kergüs.
  • The Calendar of Nechrubel, that decides the speed of the world’s demise.
  • 20 occult Powers that let you bend reality, and just as many magical catastrophes for when you disastrously fail.
  • Optional rules which brings more depth to the game. Omens let you turn bad luck into a slightly better one. Classes with unique traits and quirks, and tables that will bring life into your character.
  • 12 creatures to be murdered by.
  • Game master tools such as tables for corpse plundering, occult treasure, adventure sparks, dungeon generating and other devilry.
  • The introductory dungeon crawl scenario Rotblack Sludge, where you investigate a forgotten part of the Shadow King’s enormous ruin palace. Cannibal warlocks, poison peddlers from beyond the void and hungry gutworms await.

Mörk Borg is designed by Pelle Nilsson and Johan Nohr, and published by Free League Publishing.
