Oni Games’ Birdwatcher Comes to Kickstarter

Oni GamesBirdwatcher is coming soon to Kickstarter. Birdwatcher casts players as rival wildlife photographers on a hunt to snap photos of the elusive and stunning birds-of-paradise.

Players will lure birds from the jungle, take photos of the birds in their tree and publish their findings. The photographer with the most citation points at the end of the game is awarded the Global Geographic Photographer of the Year, and is the winner!

The game is illustrated by Lauren Helton, biologist and scientific illustrator with The Institute for Bird Populations in Petaluma, California, and designed by Zakir Jafry. Birdwatcher also features additional art by German zoologist and naturalist, Ernst Haeckel, as well as actual historic publications.

Birdwatcher is for 2-4 players, ages 10+ with games taking 25 to 60 minutes. You can sign up to be notified as to when it launches.

Gudetama: The Tricky Egg Card Game is Getting a Holiday Edition

The Gudetama: Tricky Egg Holiday Edition Card Game features all-new game art and a brand-new cover, making it the easiest gift for even the laziest of eggs!

The Gudetama card game is a trick-taking game for two to seven players where the goal is to avoid winning the final trick! The player who wins the final trick will score points equal to the card that won the trick (you do not want points!). The game is played over the course of several rounds, where each round consists of seven tricks.

Take as many cards as you want, but don’t get scrambled on the last card!

From Oni Games, the Gudetama: Tricky Egg Holiday Edition Card Game comes to shelves on September 29, 2021.

Renegade Games Studios and Oni Press Announce Aggretsuko: Work/Rage Balance

Renegade Game Studios has revealed a new collaboration with Oni Press and Sanrio coming this spring!

Aggretsuko: Work/Rage Balance is a fast-playing card game for 3-6 players, where each player takes the role of a mild-mannered office worker trying to get through their work each day. If a worker becomes frustrated, they can RAGE to let out their inner heavy-metal rock star. RAGING will provide some much-needed relief from the daily grind, but it may have consequences later on.

The first worker to complete all of their work ends the day. The others must count up the cards left in their hands and record the extra hours that they owe the company. If they have too much work left, they may even have to put in overtime!

Sanrio’s Gudetama comes to the tabletop with Gudetama: The Tricky Egg Card Game. Gudetama has you channel your inner lazy egg in an over-easy trick-taking game. Take as many cards as you want but don’t get egg on your face with the last card.

The game is for ages 7+ and 2-7 players. Games take 20 minutes to play. The game comes with 63 cards.

Gudetama is published by Renegade Game Studios and Oni Games, designed by Steve Ellis and Ben Eisner, with art by Wook-Jin Clark, and graphic design by Sonja Synak.

Renegade Game Studios and Oni Games have announced Autumn Harvest: A Tea Dragon Society Game designed by Steve Ellis and Tyler Tinsley. Illustrated by Katie O’Neill, Autumn Harvest is based on her Eisner-winning Oni Press original graphic novel The Tea Dragon Society and its companion The Tea Dragon Festival.

Autumn Harvest: A Tea Dragon Society Game follows up the 2019 Origins Award-winning family game The Tea Dragon Society Card Game and will allow fans and gamers to explore the secrets of Tea Dragon caretaking in an enchanting world of friendship. Autumn Harvest is a standalone game that can be combined with The Tea Dragon Society Card Game to expand gameplay, and is expected to release in late 2020.

Discover the ancient art form of Tea Dragon care-taking within this enchanting world of friendship and fantasy. Create a bond between yourself and your Tea Dragon that grows as you progress through the seasons creating memories to share forever.

Each player’s deck represents their own Tea Dragon. From turn to turn, players will choose to draw a card, triggering effects and strengthening their position, or buy a card, improving their deck or scoring points.

The game takes place over four seasons, starting in spring and ending in winter. At the end of winter, the player who has the most points is the winner.

The comic publisher Oni Press is branching out with the launch of Oni Games, a new gaming imprint dedicated to bringing Oni Press titles to the growing tabletop market.

With the response to Renegade Game Studios’ Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Card Game based on the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O’Malley and designed by Keith Baker, the positive critical and fan response to the recently launched Dead of Winter comic series based on Plaid Hat Games’ hit board game, as well as our previous collaboration with Pinnacle Entertainment Group in bringing Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt’s The Sixth Gun to the Savage Worlds role-playing system, Oni Press felt it was time to capitalize on the momentum for a more official entry into the world of gaming.

The focus of the Oni Games imprint will be on partnering with both new and veteran game designers and established game publishers to bring the unique characters and vibrant worlds of their original creator-owned comics to the world of games.
Joining Oni Press to help manage this initiative is industry veteran Steve Ellis. Ellis has worked in the gaming industry across a variety of capacities for almost 20 years, including retail as the founder and owner of Rainy Day Games, and a long list of credits in game design and development on projects like Dicey Goblins, the Trains series, and many others.
