Pokémon: Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames launches today

The Pokémon Company International has released the latest expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card GameScarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames. It’s available beginning today at participating retailers worldwide, including Pokémon Center, the premier online destination for official Pokémon merchandise.

The launch of the latest expansion marks the introduction of type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex to the Pokémon TCG, where certain Tera Pokémon ex cards will feature a different Energy type. In Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames, Trainers will see Charizard ex as a Darkness type versus its usual Fire type, as well as Tyranitar ex as a Lightning type versus its usual Fighting or Darkness type. When attacking, type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex will use the same Energy as their usual type; however, they will have a different Weakness that corresponds to their shifted type. These cards will also follow the same rules as normal Pokémon ex — when Knocked Out, a type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex gives up two Prize cards instead of one.

Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames is available now in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, and special collections at Pokémon Center in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., as well as other participating retailers worldwide.

In addition, Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames is now digitally playable via the Pokémon TCG Live app for iOS, Android, macOS and Windows devices. Trainers can collect and battle with new type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex, and upon login, the Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames Battle Pass will reward players with a new deck featuring Darkness-type Charizard ex. Players can also unlock an additional premium deck featuring Toedscruel ex by redeeming Crystals, earned by completing daily quests.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game Heads to Smartphones and more with the New Pokémon TCG Live App

The Pokémon Company International has unveiled Pokémon TCG Live, a new app that allows Trainers to enjoy the Pokémon Trading Card Game in an updated digital format. Releasing as a free-to-play game, Pokémon TCG Live also marks the first time that the Pokémon Trading Card Game will be playable on smartphones, in addition to tablets, PCs, and Macs.

The announcement comes as The Pokémon Company International continues its yearlong celebration of the brand’s 25th anniversary by engaging fans with innovative Pokémon experiences and products.

Pokémon TCG Live is designed to be easy for beginners to learn how to play the game, while offering fresh challenges for existing players to improve and test their skills. Players will be able to enjoy some of their favorite Pokémon Trading Card Game activities, including building decks and battling other Trainers around the world. They will also be able to tailor their experience with customizable avatars and Pokémon Trading Card Game accessories, participate in daily quests, and more. In addition, Pokémon TCG Live will continue to be updated with new content and features following launch.

Pokémon TCG Live will be coming soon to supported iOS and Android devices, as well as PCs and Macs via Pokemon.com. Trainers looking to preview the game prior to broad availability will be able to participate in the mobile soft launch in Canada and the global open beta for PCs and Macs later this year.
