On September 25, 2020, explore Champion’s Path, the next expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

In Champion’s Path, Trainers will have the unique ability to “recreate” their journey through the Galar region in the Pokémon TCG by collecting various pins featuring Gym logos as well as foil cards representing the partner Pokémon of each Gym Leader—similar to what they’d experience in the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield video games. Key highlights from the set include 11 Pokémon V plus four full-art Pokémon V, three Pokémon VMAX, and one full-art Supporter card. Trainers will be able to discover Venusaur, Lucario, and Incineroar as new Pokémon V—plus Gigantamax Pokémon like Drednaw VMAX and Alcremie VMAX.

Champion’s Path Pin Collection and Champion’s Path Special Pin Collection

The Champion’s Path Pin Collection includes six versions—each themed after a different Gym Leader in the Galar region with a corresponding pin and foil card. Pin collections based on Milo’s Turffield Gym, Nessa’s Hulbury Gym, and Kabu’s Motostoke Gym will release on September 25, 2020, while pin collections inspired by Opal’s Ballonlea Gym, Piers’ Spikemuth Gym, and Raihan’s Hammerlocke Gym will launch on November 13, 2020.

In addition, the Champion’s Path Special Pin Collection comes with two versions representing the Stow-on-Side Gym and Circhester Gym. In each of these pin collections, Trainers will find collector’s pins featuring each Gym’s two logos and two foil cards showcasing the partner Pokémon of both Gym Leaders. The Champion’s Path Special Pin Collection will be available on October 2, 2020.

Trainers can choose to represent their favorite Gym Leader or even collect the full lineup.

Champion’s Path Elite Trainer Box

Arriving on September 25, 2020, the Champion’s Path Elite Trainer Box features Gigantamax Charizard and comes with a full-art promo card of Charizard V, 10 Champion’s Path booster packs, and various gameplay accessories.

Trainers can also look forward to the Champion’s Path Collection—Dubwool V on September 25, 2020, and the Champion’s Path Collection—Hatterene V on October 23, 2020. These boxes include a foil promo card and foil oversize card of either Dubwool V or Hatterene V, as well as four Champion’s Path booster packs.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game is going from cards to board game in the first ever adaptation of the TCG. The Pokémon Company International has announced Pokémon Trading Card Game Battle Academy. The game provides everything a “Trainer” needs to master the basics of the Pokémon TCG, Battle Academy offers fun family entertainment, combining strategic Pokémon TCG gameplay within a classic, easy-to-learn family game experience. The game provides an even more accessible option for aspiring players.

Each Battle Academy box comes with a two-player game board, three 60-card decks, tutorial guides, and gameplay accessories. It also comes with a code card that allows Trainers to enjoy the Pokémon TCG digitally through the free-to-play Pokémon Trading Card Game Online app on iOS and Android, as well as on Pokemon.com.

The game launches around the world on July 31, 2020 and will be available widely at participating mass and hobby retailers, as well as online retailers.

Charizard and Eternatus make their Pokémon VMAX debut in Pokémon: Sword & Shield—Darkness Ablaze, Out August 14

The Pokémon Company International has unveiled the newest expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card GameSword & Shield—Darkness Ablaze, arriving around the world on August 14, 2020.

Sword & Shield—Darkness Ablaze introduces highly collectible cards including Charizard VMAX, as the fan-favorite Charizard makes its Gigantamax form debut in the Pokémon TCG—just like in the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield video games. In addition, Trainers will be able to pull more Pokémon from the Galar region as Pokémon VMAX, such as Centiskorch VMAX and Grimmsnarl VMAX in their Gigantamax forms, and the Legendary Pokémon Eternatus VMAX in its unique Eternamax form.

The full expansion includes the following:

  • Seven Pokémon VMAX
  • 14 powerful Pokémon V—plus nine full-art Pokémon V
  • 17 Trainer cards and four full-art Supporter cards
  • Three new Special Energy cards

Fans interested in playing with cards from the expansion before launch can do so by picking up the Sword & Shield—Darkness Ablaze Build & Battle Box, available through their local participating Pokémon TCG retailer starting August 1. Each box contains four Sword & Shield—Darkness Ablaze booster packs; a 23-card Evolution pack featuring key cards from current and prior sets, including one of four alternate-art promo cards; and a deck-building tip sheet.

Pokémon announces the Pokémon Players Cup

The Pokémon Company International has announced the Pokémon Players Cup, a new online tournament for Masters Division competitors that will begin in July 2020.

Competitors in the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG), the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Video Game Championships (VGC), and Pokkén Tournament DX will have the chance to prove they’re the very best in this official Play! Pokémon online tournament open to players worldwide.

The Pokémon Players Cup will have two stages. In July 2020, eligible players will compete in a double-elimination bracket, broken down by rating zones, to determine the top players in each rating zone. Those top finishers will face off in the final stage of the Pokémon Players Cup in August 2020, when the winner will be crowned as the champion of the Pokémon Players Cup and earn a Travel Award to a future International Championships event, part of the traditional Play! Pokémon Championship Series.

Pokémon TCG and VGC competitors will need to qualify for the Pokémon Players Cup through their performance in the following upcoming events. Trainers should make sure to bring their A-game to these upcoming qualifiers so they can compete in the Pokémon Players Cup!

Pokémon TCG Championships
Pokémon TCG competitors will qualify through their ranking on the June Leaderboard (Standard format, Tournament Rep) in the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online.

Pokémon VG Championships
Pokémon Video Game Championships competitors will qualify through the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield International Challenge May Online Competition, which runs from May 21 to 24, 2020[link].  Masters Division competitors in the Pokémon VGC will need to finish among the top eligible Trainers in their rating zone for the May International Challenge to qualify for the Pokémon Players Cup.

Please note that in order for Pokémon VGC competitors to be eligible, they will need to link their Nintendo Account with their Pokémon Trainer Club account before signing up.

Pokkén Tournament DX Championships
Pokkén Tournament DX competitors will be able to register directly for the first stage of the Pokémon Players Cup at a future date, with more details coming soon at Pokemon.com.

In addition, during the Pokémon Players Cup, each of the Pokémon TCG, Pokémon VGC, and Pokkén Tournament DX competitions will kick off with a special invitational event, with the winners qualifying for the final stage of the competition.

The Pokémon Company International has launched the latest installment of the Pokémon Trading Card Game with the Sword & Shield—Rebel Clash expansion.

The company is working hard with its distribution and retail partners to ensure Trainers can experience Sword & Shield—Rebel Clash; however, current circumstances mean that product availability may be limited.

Arriving in booster packs, theme decks, Elite Trainer Boxes, and special collections, Sword & Shield—Rebel Clash continues to debut more Galarian Pokémon, as well as new Pokémon VMAX that showcase Pokémon in their Gigantamax forms as seen in the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield video games.

The expansion features the following key cards for fans to collect, trade, and battle with:

  • 16 Pokémon V and 14 full-art Pokémon V, such as Toxtricity V, Dubwool V, and Boltund V
  • Seven Pokémon VMAX including Toxtricity VMAX, Copperajah VMAX, Dragapult VMAX, and the final Evolutions of the first partner Pokémon of Galar
  • Over 15 Trainer cards and four full-art Supporter cards
  • Four new Special Energy cards

Pokémon World Championships will be held at ExCeL London

Pokémon World Championships 2020

Pokémon Company International today confirmed that this year’s Pokémon World Championships will be held at ExCeL London from August 14–16, 2020. The best Pokémon Trading Card Game and video game players from around the world will be invited to compete, with fans welcome to purchase spectator passes and witness the excitement of the most prestigious event in the Pokémon Championship Series.

The 2020 Pokémon World Championships will also be home to a Pokémon Center store, where fans will be able to purchase a wide variety of products including a range of items themed around the tournament.

Sword & Shield Announced for the Pokémon Trading Card Game

At the Pokémon World Championships, Sword & Shield, the next series in the Pokémon Trading Card Game debuted. Based on the upcoming video games, the debut also revealed a new type of card, Pokémon V.

Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, unveiled the new series coming to the game. Included in the series are Pokémon V, powerful new cards that will play an important role in players’ strategies. Event attendees also received a preview of Zacian V and Zamazenta V, which will be available in the series’ upcoming first expansion.
