Pokémon: Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames launches today

The Pokémon Company International has released the latest expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card GameScarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames. It’s available beginning today at participating retailers worldwide, including Pokémon Center, the premier online destination for official Pokémon merchandise.

The launch of the latest expansion marks the introduction of type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex to the Pokémon TCG, where certain Tera Pokémon ex cards will feature a different Energy type. In Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames, Trainers will see Charizard ex as a Darkness type versus its usual Fire type, as well as Tyranitar ex as a Lightning type versus its usual Fighting or Darkness type. When attacking, type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex will use the same Energy as their usual type; however, they will have a different Weakness that corresponds to their shifted type. These cards will also follow the same rules as normal Pokémon ex — when Knocked Out, a type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex gives up two Prize cards instead of one.

Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames is available now in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, and special collections at Pokémon Center in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., as well as other participating retailers worldwide.

In addition, Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames is now digitally playable via the Pokémon TCG Live app for iOS, Android, macOS and Windows devices. Trainers can collect and battle with new type-shifted Tera Pokémon ex, and upon login, the Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames Battle Pass will reward players with a new deck featuring Darkness-type Charizard ex. Players can also unlock an additional premium deck featuring Toedscruel ex by redeeming Crystals, earned by completing daily quests.

The Pokémon Company International has announced the latest expansion of the best-selling Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG)Scarlet & Violet—Paldea Evolved, available at participating retailers worldwide beginning June 9, 2023.

Scarlet & Violet—Paldea Evolved will introduce more Pokémon ex, which sport high HP as well as powerful attacks and Abilities but give up two Prize cards when Knocked Out. Trainers will also continue to see Tera Pokémon ex in the new expansion, including Slowking, Forretress and Dedenne, displayed in full-art illustrations to capture the unique crystal effects of the characters. Alternate art styles will also be introduced for illustration rare and special illustration rare cards, allowing Trainers to collect unique art cards that spotlight the Pokémon’s personality traits or Evolutions.

Noteworthy cards from the expansion include:

  • 15 Pokémon ex and three Tera Pokémon ex
  • 36 illustration rare Pokémon

Go Classic with the Pokémon Trading Card Game

During the 2023 annual Pokémon Day livestream, the classic trading card game is getting a new release called Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic. The “premium” Pokémon set is “designed to last a lifetime” and contains everything you need to play.

The release features preconstructed decks and gameplay accessories that have been “uniquely designed to be both beautiful and functional to deliver a polished battling experience.”

The set is a collaboration between The Pokémon Company, Creatures Inc., and design firm nendo, and a premium Pokémon TCG set that is designed as a staple playset for any Pokémon TCG fan.

The new release features:

Three Preconstructed Decks:

  • Iconic cards from the history of the Pokémon TCG, including Base Set Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise, headline three specially constructed 60-card decks featuring Grass, Fire and Water Energy types.
  • Alongside classic cards, brand-new cards such as Ho-Oh ex, Lugia ex and Suicune ex are included, allowing players to form new strategies.
  • Except for Basic Energy cards, cards included in Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic cannot be used for tournament play. However, these static decks are perfect for challenging friends and family to a Pokémon TCG battle at any time.

High-Quality Game Board:

  • The foldable and portable two-player game board comes with card placement zones for Active Pokémon, Benched Pokémon, a card deck, discard pile, and Prize cards.
  • The game board features a compartment that holds up to three decks, as well as a toolbox complete with all gameplay accessories needed for battling.
  • The game board offers a premium fabric surface that allows cards to easily slide across, non-stitched edges to avoid cards getting caught when playing, a fabric hinge eliminating gaps in the board, and built-in magnet to minimize noise during gameplay.
  • The black-and-white color scheme of the game board has been designed to match the toolbox and card sleeves while maintaining a visual focus on the cards and tools.

All-Inclusive Toolbox:

  • The toolbox contains enough gameplay accessories for two players to battle, including stackable damage counters, three-dimensional Poison and Burn markers, and metal orbs that take the place of Pokémon coins.
  • Players will be able to roll metal orbs down a small chute — if the orb lands in a white-bordered hole, it’s treated as heads, and if it lands in a black-bordered hole, it’s treated as tails — removing the need for dice and coins.

Intuitive Damage Counters and Special Condition Markers:

  • The toolbox includes a set of damage counters featuring yellow 10-damage counters, orange 50-damage counters and red 100-damage counters.
  • I n addition to the bright colors, each damage counter prominently displays thedamage count on its side, allowing players to quickly calculate the total damage count.
  • Designed with a conical shape, the damage counters are stackable to maximize visibility of in-play cards and allow for easy storage.
  • Made from aluminum, the damage counters are moderately weighted to prevent falling over when vertically stacked.
  • Three-dimensional, ring-shaped Poison and Burn markers are also included in the toolbox to allow players to easily identify these Special Conditions.

Elegant Card Sleeves and Deck Boxes:

  • Featuring a Poké Ball motif, three kinds of card sleeves are included to protect the three preconstructed decks.
  • Card sleeves have been purposely designed in a black-and-white color scheme to maintain visual focus on the card artwork.
  • Three deck boxes featuring the Grass, Fire and Water Energy symbols match the preconstructed decks and allow for easy storage of sleeved cards when not in use

Expected to arrive sometime in 2023 the price is unknown.

Pokémon Trading Card Game: Scarlet & Violet Brings Back Pokémon ex Mechanic and Introduces Tera Pokémon

The Pokémon Company International has revealed more details about the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG): Scarlet & Violet expansion, launching worldwide beginning on March 31, 2023.

The new expansion will adopt an updated take on Pokémon ex, a gameplay mechanic featuring Pokémon with high HP as well as powerful attacks and Abilities. Unlike Pokémon-EX from the Black & White and XY Series, which were all Basic Pokémon, the Pokémon ex in the Scarlet & Violet Series can be Basic, Stage 1, or Stage 2. Though powerful, Pokémon ex give up two Prize cards when Knocked Out.

Inspired by the Terastal phenomenon from the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet video games, the expansion will introduce Tera Pokémon ex featuring unique etched artwork that spotlights their Tera Types. These new cards follow the same rules as Pokémon ex but will take no damage from attacks when on the Bench.

In addition to the recently announced design updates for Pokémon TCG cards, Scarlet & Violet will feature full-art etched cards showcasing Pokémon in simple poses and bright colors. The expansion will also include illustration rare and special illustration rare Pokémon, which may show an entire Evolution line growing together. These cards will showcase Pokémon in their natural environments and offer a closer look at their unique personalities.

Noteworthy cards from the expansion include:

  • 12 double rare Pokémon ex, including two Tera Pokémon ex featuring Arcanine and Gyarados
  • 12 ultra rare Pokémon ex and eight ultra rare Supporter cards
  • 24 illustration rare Pokémon
  • 10 special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards
  • Six hyper rare gold etched cards, which can include Pokémon ex, Trainer and Energy cards

Scarlet & Violet will be available in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes and special collections at Pokémon Center in the US, Canada, and UK, as well as other participating retailers around the world. In addition, certain products are now available for preorder at Pokémon Center, including the Scarlet & Violet Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box, which includes two additional booster packs and two copies of a full-art promo card; one of the cards features the Pokémon Center logo.

The Pokémon Company International has announced the next expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Scarlet & Violet, inspired by the recently released Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet video games. The Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet expansion will be launching worldwide beginning on March 31, 2023.

As the first expansion in the Scarlet & Violet Series, it will see the return of the Pokémon ex gameplay mechanic, which will appear in each stage of Evolution and have high HP, as well as powerful attacks and Abilities. However, when a Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, it gives up two Prize cards instead of one.

The Pokémon Company International also introduced several card design improvements that will be implemented starting with the Scarlet & Violet expansion. Yellow borders on Pokémon TCG cards will become gray to match the cards released in Japan, providing a more seamless Pokémon TCG experience around the world while allowing the card artwork to shine even further. In addition, subcategories for Trainer cards — such as Supporter, Item, and Stadium — will appear in the top left corner to be more visible in players’ hands, Basic Energy cards will display another Energy symbol on the bottom right corner to make it easier to track during gameplay, and expansion symbols will be replaced by expansion codes and language codes across all cards.

Pokémon Trading Card Game: Sword & Shield-Silver Tempest Expansion with New Radiant Pokémon Launches Today

The Pokémon Company International has released the latest expansion for the best-selling Pokémon Trading Card GameSword & Shield—Silver Tempest, available starting today at participating retailers around the world.

Sword & Shield—Silver Tempest reveals three new Radiant Pokémon, including Radiant Jirachi and Radiant Alakazam — Shiny Pokémon with powerful Abilities or attacks and illustrated in etched artwork. The new expansion also introduces more Pokémon VSTAR, including Lugia VSTAR, Regidrago VSTAR and Alolan Vulpix VSTAR — the first Pokémon VSTAR in the Pokémon TCG to not be fully evolved.

This expansion also includes 15 Pokémon V, 18 full-art Pokémon V, one Pokémon VMAX, six Pokémon VSTAR and a Trainer Gallery subset of 30 cards with artwork featuring popular Trainers and Pokémon.

The Pokémon Company International has revealed more details about the highly anticipated Pokémon Trading Card Game: Pokémon GO expansion, releasing around the world starting on July 1, 2022. The new expansion is a collaboration with the Pokémon GO app. In it, fans will be able to play with cards featuring photorealistic artwork and unique gameplay scenarios inspired by the mobile title.

Certain cards illustrate Pokémon as if they have jumped out into the real world, such as Pikachu walking alongside its Trainer and Snorlax sleeping wherever it pleases, while other cards portray Pokémon in scenes that are familiar to the mobile game, such as Blissey valiantly defending a Gym and Aipom dodging a Poké Ball.

In addition, objects and characters from the world of Pokémon GO will appear as Trainer cards, such as PokéStop as a Stadium card and Lure Module as an Item card, as well as Spark of Team Instinct, Blanche of Team Mystic and Candela of Team Valor as Supporter cards.

The Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO‘s first wave of releases comes to stores on July 1st, with more releases coming at a later date. Select products will feature unique promo cards, including powerful new Pokémon V and Pokémon VSTAR that will be impactful in Pokémon TCG battles.

Battle Academy (2022) is an updated board game adaptation of the best-selling Pokémon TCG, which makes it easy and fun for the whole family to learn the classic tabletop game. The new version introduces the Pokémon V gameplay mechanic and an updated lineup of fan-favorite Pokémon, including Pikachu, Eevee and Cinderace. Each Battle Academy (2022) product comes with everything needed to master the basics of the Pokémon TCG — including a two-player game board, three 60-card decks, tutorial guides and gameplay accessories — making it an ideal activity for family and friends.

Pokémon Trading Card Game: Sword & Shield-Astral Radiance Expansion to Introduce the Radiant Pokémon Gameplay Mechanic

Today, The Pokémon Company International unveiled the next expansion for the popular Pokémon Trading Card Game, Sword & Shield—Astral Radiance, which will launch at participating retailers around the world starting from May 27, 2022.

Inspired by the Pokémon Legends: Arceus video game, Sword & Shield—Astral Radiance will feature various Hisuian Pokémon and card art that showcases the Hisui region. The expansion will also introduce Radiant Pokémon, a new gameplay mechanic that features Shiny Pokémon illustrated in etched artwork. Radiant Pokémon tend to have a powerful Ability or attack with the potential to impact the Pokémon TCG metagame. Players will only be able to include one Radiant Pokémon in their deck.

In addition, Sword & Shield—Astral Radiance will continue to highlight Pokémon VSTAR and includes a special Trainer Gallery subset of 30 cards with artwork featuring fan-favorite Trainers and Pokémon.
