Dedicated fans will be able to play special pre-launch editions (including bonus cards), ahead of general retail release at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con (Skybound booth), and at Gen Con (Mantic Games booth).

Mantic Announces the end of The Walking Dead Miniatures Game

It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise but Mantic Games has announced they’ll be ending new releases and support for The Walking Dead Miniatures Game.

Launched in 2016, over five years the game publisher has released seven waves of story arc for the game taking players from Atlanta to the Prison, meeting The Governor and Negan, and up to the Whisperers. It also featured spin-offs like the Here’s Negan board game, and Call to Arms which expanded it to more of a skirmish game.

But, with the comic no longer being published there’s not much more that can be released and such things have been decided that it should wind down.

Gamers will have until March 31st to grab items that will be discounted by 25% by using the code TWD2022 from the Mantic website. If something is out of stock, Mantic asks for those interested to add it to their wishlist to let them know the demand.

There’s a vibrant community around the game that is sure to keep it going in some form with homebrewed rules.

Time is ticking down though, so if you need to complete your collection or have always wanted to get the game, now’s your last chance!

The Walking Dead: All Out War Comes to Tabletop Miniatures

TWD-zombies02-urban-cropped05-600x352The announcement was teased earlier this week, but Mantic Games has announced they’ll be bringing the entertainment juggernaut that is The Walking Dead to tabletops in the form of a miniature game. The company announced on their blog yesterday that they have obtained the license.

The license gives the company the ability to mine the comic book series for material for the game, the television series would be different.

From the blog post:

The Walking Dead: All Out War will be set in the engaging and immersive post-apocalyptic world of The Walking Dead comic series. Having the comic license gives us far more freedom to reproduce from all the rich and evocative artwork, and over 149 issues of the comics. This offered the biggest choice of factions and characters – in fact the widest scope possible to explore the setting and heroes. Finally the comic license also gives us direct access to the Skybound team, and insight into the world by the people who actually created it! We will bring the pages to life with fantastic models that will cry out to be painted, slick game play and it’ll all be part of an awesomely fun gaming experience.

Mantic’s goal was to find a property that people were passionate about and you didn’t need a ton of models to get folks interested in the painting/modeling aspect too. That led the company to The Walking Dead.

What stands out to me is the choice of title for the game. All Out War refers to a specific storyline that featured Rick’s group pitted against various other factions, more the living fighting the living than any versus the undead.

Some rumors of gameplay have leaked out on forums including the concept would have zombies being more of a random factor than what one side is playing, as well as ammo being limited, both sound very interesting.

The Walking Dead: All Out War will be coming to tabletops some time in 2016.

Skybound’s Superfight Comes to Loot Crate

Loot Crate and Skybound aren’t strangers. The comic company’s The Walking Dead had a special variant previously in a release from the delivery service. In this month’s box, Skybound’s game Superfight will see an exclusive deck released.

Honest Abe Lincoln with a Jetpack and Kitten Cannon vs. a Giant Octopus! It’s the former President’s birthday & he’s here to protect us from the wrath of a freakish cephalopod!

Superfight is party game of super powers and super problems. The game is all about arguing with your friends about ridiculous fights. The games uses similar mechanics to Apples to Apples or Cards Against Humanity and players use a hand of three white cards and three black cards, and choose one of each to beat the player next to them. Then they get a random black card before fighting. Players then argue their case for why they should win, and the table votes.

Loot Crate’s theme this month is “Play,” so not shocking to see a game like this included. Orders close for February’s Crate on February 19th, so don’t dilly dally.
