Starfinder Drift Crisis kicks off a year-long meta-event

Drift Crisis

Starfinder Drift Crisis, the latest rulebook for the Starfinder Roleplaying Game, and the associated Starfinder Flip-Mat: Drift Crisis, are now available at game and books stores world-wide and at paizo.com. The hyperspace plane known as the Drift has gone haywire in a galaxy-spanning disaster that will change the Starfinder setting forever!

The Drift Crisis is a year-long meta-event taking place throughout the Starfinder Roleplaying Game. Running through spring 2023, the Drift Crisis features a hardcover sourcebook, two 3-part Adventure Paths, multiple adventures, a Flip-Mat, and will shake the foundations of how interstellar travel works in the Starfinder game and setting. This event gives you even more reason to play Starfinder today!

Starfinder Drift Crisis

Hyperspace is broken! In a catastrophic instant, commonplace faster-than-light travel, made possible by the Drift, fails. Travelers vanish midflight, communications scramble, and the Drift’s progenitor god Triune falls mysteriously silent. In the aftermath, empires cling to far-flung holdings, opportunists exploit the chaos, and everyone demands to know what triggered this crisis—and how it can be solved. With Starfinder Drift Crisis, you can dive right into this galaxy-spanning adventure and determine what happens next! Featuring:

  • More than 100 new player options, from class options and themes to equipment, feats, and spells!
  • Twenty detailed adventure seeds that provide a framework for playing a framework for playing through dozens of Drift Crisis stories, whether in encounters, adventures, or entire campaigns.
  • Deep dives on the myriad effects of the Drift Crisis on factions, worlds, systems, and the galaxy at large.
  • A toolbox with a vast store of information for running adventures in the Drift Crisis, from dozens of unique treasures and 20 new creatures to rich nonplayer character profiles and information on adapting Adventure Paths.

Enhance your trip into trouble with the Starfinder Flip-Mat: Drift Crisis. This jumbo, double-sided Starfinder Flip-Mat features a hex grid map of a typical expanse of the Drift on one side, perfect for the Starfinder Roleplaying Game’s starship combat system. The other side is a standard 1-inch-square grid showing the interior of a technological structure—such as a Drift beacon, the satellites that help make Drift travel possible, or a high-tech temple to Triune, the tripartite deity who resides in the Drift. Starfinder Flip-Mats present ready-to-use science-fantasy set pieces for the busy Game Master. With Starfinder Flip-Mat: Drift Crisis, you’ll be ready for this setting-changing catastrophe!

Paizo and Gale Force Nine Announce Boardgame Partnership with Three Games Announced

Pathfinder: Level 20

Gale Force Nine (GF9) has teamed up with Paizo to publish original board and card games drawing from the worlds of Pathfinder and Starfinder. The multi-year partnership will see GF9 exploring the rich settings of Golarion, the Pact Worlds, and beyond to bring the heroes, villains, locations, and monsters from the roleplaying games into several new board games.

Starting in Q2 2022, Gale Force Nine will release two board games and one card game over the first year of the partnership, with more following over the course of the relationship. The first three titles are:

  • Pathfinder: Level 20 (Q2 2022)
  • Starfinder: Pirates of Skydock (Q3 2022)
  • Pathfinder: Tall Tales (Q4 2022)

Pathfinder: Level 20

The first game of this partnership, releasing in Q2 2022, is Pathfinder: Level 20, a game where the players take on the role of kobolds in their warren scampering away from a 19th-level adventurer who only needs five XP to hit level 20.

Will you make the heroes scamper away in embarrassment, thus being crowned the kobold champion? Or will you be the last survivor among your friends, a victory in its own right?

Pathfinder: Level 20 is a 2–6 player game and will be available in April with an MSRP of $30.

Paizo Recognizes the United Paizo Workers

In what is a victory for union organizing, Paizo has announced that it has voluntarily recognized the United Paizo Workers union, which is affiliated with the Communications Workers of America (CWA).

In the announcement, Jeff Alvarez, President of Paizo said:

We look forward to working with the union to continue and expand our efforts to make Paizo a better place to work and to ensure that Pathfinder and Starfinder products continue to exceed gamer expectations for many years to come.

The next steps will involve the United Paizo Workers (UPW) union electing their bargaining representatives and then meeting with Paizo management to negotiate terms for a collective bargaining agreement. This process can take some time, but Paizo has said they are committed to the effort and hope to settle a contract in due course.

In the press announcement, Paizo event went so far to encourage following the UPW on Twitter for future updates!

The UPW made its intentions known a week ago today laying out the reasons for their organizing. You can read more about that here. With lots of chatter about working conditions within the game industry, is this the beginning of a broader movement?

Paizo Staff Launch United Paizo Workers to Unionize

United Paizo Workers

Announced in a series of tweets, over 30 members of the Paizo Publishing staff have formed United Paizo Workers (UPW). The movement is one of the first unions of its kind in the tabletop game industry. This is the first step to invoke a vote to form a union at the company. The organization is working with the Communications Workers of America (CWA).

Paizo is the game publishing company behind roleplaying games such as Pathfinder and Starfinder. The UPW has stated that Paizo’s workers are underpaid for their labor and are required to live in one of the most expensive cities in the world. There have also been claims of issues with management at the company including inconsistent hiring practices, pay inequity, harassment, and verbal abuse.

While changes have been promised by the executive team at Paizo, the UPW sees that collective action is the only way to guarantee that.

You can learn more at the UPW website which also has suggestions on how individuals can show their support.
