Renegade Game Studios

Renegade Game Studios has announced G.I. JOE: Battle for the Arctic Circle, which will be powered by the Axis & Allies gameplay engine, under license by toy and game company Hasbro. This match made in heaven will allow fans to play as the G.I. JOE or Cobra in a fight for control of the Arctic Circle.

The game will feature over 110 figures, including: the Snow Cat, W.O.L.F., Skystriker, and Rattler. The game will also introduce new strategic options that commanders may employ, such as using the Weather Dominator to freeze the sea to block pathways or create strategic land bridges. Players can expect to deploy troops in 2024.

Renegade Game Studios has also announced a new addition to their Robo Rally line-up, and there’s a bit … More Than Meets The Eye to this one. Coming in 2024, Renegade will release the Transformers Robo Rally game, featuring classic Robo Rally gameplay mixed with iconic Transformers characters like Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Players will be able to choose between six different Transformers robots, each with their own personal upgrades that give them unique advantages and identities. Players will convert between bot and alt (or vehicle) modes, to better navigate the many roads, buildings, and obstacles that make up each race. The game will also feature four completely new double-sided game boards, representing the city and desert landscapes of Velocitron.

Hasbro and Mattel sign a licensing pact to create co-branded toys and games

Hasbro and Mattel

Rumors of a buyout have swirled for quite some time but a deal of a different sort is happening between Hasbro and Mattel. The two companies have entered a multiyear licensing agreement to share their properties for co-branded games and toys.

That means you’ll soon be able to find Barbie-branded Monopoly launching in fall 2023 and Transformers-branded UNO coming later this year. Also coming is a Transformers-branded Hot Wheels line in early 2024.

The deal spins out of the two properties’ upcoming films, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and Barbie, each of which come to theaters in the summer.

Hero Collector and Hasbro Join Forces To Bring Transformers Chess To Kickstarter

Transformers Chess Set

Hero Collector is joining forces with Hasbro to launch their first ever Kickstarter campaign: an all-new Transformers Chess Set!

This epic chess set will feature 32 unique game pieces – 16 for the heroic Autobots and 16 for the villainous Decepticons – created specifically for the Kickstarter and modeled on the classic 1980s Generation One (G1) Transformers animated cartoon! Each model is digitally sculpted, then cast in metallic resin and painted by hand. The sculpts, which show the Transformers in their robot form, were developed with Hasbro and are based on the original animation designs and careful study of the animated series.

Standing 4-6” tall on a base marked with the symbol for the relevant chess piece, these robotic warriors will wage war on an exclusive Cybertron-themed chess board, with color-coded symbols in Autobot red or Decepticon purple. These two warring factions include such iconic characters as:

  • Autobot King: Optimus Prime. The beloved commander of the Autobots, Optimus Prime championed freedom in countless clashes across Cybertron – and Earth, where he adopted his famous truck alternate mode.
  • Autobot Knight: Hot Rod. A young and brash Autobot with a race car alt-mode, Hot Rod eventually grew to lead the Autobots – as Rodimus Prime!
  • Autobot Pawn: Bumblebee. The heart of the Autobots, Bumblebee was quick to befriend their human allies in his iconic yellow beetle alt-mode.
  • Autobot Pawn: Prowl. The surly strategist of the Autobots, Prowl’s police car alt-mode suited his no-nonsense personality.
  • Decepticon King: Megatron. The feared leader and founder of the Decepticons, and the eternal nemesis of Optimus Prime, Megatron sought nothing less than complete iron-fisted domination of Cybertron!
  • Decepticon Queen: Starscream. The scheming second-in-command of the Decepticons, Starscream constantly plotted to overthrow Megatron.
  • Decepticon Knight: Soundwave. The loyal comms officer of the Decepticons, Soundwave gathered intelligence using his trio of cassette-minions.
  • Decepticon Knight: Shockwave. Theops commander of the Decepticons, Shockwave’s cold logic and laser-turret mode made him a deadly threat.

This Kickstarter has a delivery date of Q4 2022. A variety of backer gifts are planned for fans who want to go the distance in bringing this game to life – including a Transformers pin badge, Transformers profile book, and more exclusive Gen-1 chess pieces!

Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro Announce Titan Masters Attack is the Transformers Trading Card Game’s Final Release

Transformers Trading Card Game

Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro announced that “Titan Masters Attack” is the final release for their Transformers Trading Card Game. The game has been going for two years with numerous releases but the company said the “product offerings didn’t meet the expectations of the broader fan base to engage further with the brand” despite the community’s continued growth.

The game was an interesting one taking advantage of some of the unique characters and “gimmicks” created by the toy line and animated shows. While it had a dedicated following it never seemed to break through at the conventions we saw its presence at. Locally for us, the game has had little to no presence at game shops.

The trading card game saw ten retailer releases in total, five booster sets and five starter/deck sets plus convention exclusives.

“Titan Masters Attack” released on May 29.
