Magic: The Gathering and Marvel team for Universes Beyond

With Magic: The Gathering exploring and teaming up with numerous properties for their “Universes Beyond” line of cards, it was only a matter of time before a team-up with Marvel.

In a new video, an upcoming release of the popular game and comic company was teased that will “share fan-favorite Super Heroes, villains, and more through amazing tabletop gameplay.”

Magic: The Gathering has been willing to step far outside its traditional world in recent years with releases tied into Doctor Who, Warhammer 40K, Army of Darkness, Princess Bride, Fallout, and so much more.

Warhammer 40,000 is Coming to Magic: The Gathering with Universes Beyond

They’ve teamed with Bandai, McFarlane Toys, and Marvel, and now Games Workshop has announced a new partnership that’s unexpected, Wizards of the Coast for the newly announced Universes Beyond.

The two game companies are working together to bring the world of Warhammer 40,000 to the world of Magic: The Gathering. The property will appear in Universes Beyond, a new premium card set for the popular card game.

Universes Beyond will bring the heroes, villains, and xenos races of the 41st Millenium to the card game all featuring brand new art.

Universes Beyond is a new expansion for Magic: The Gathering that combines the card game with worlds, characters, and stories beyond its universe.

Along with Warhammer 40,000, The Lord of the Rings will also join Universes Beyond. Universes Beyond is a brand within Magic: The Gathering and will exist alongside the main games’ products. The expansion of the game mechanic can include properties from comics, novels, and other games, as examples.

The Universes Beyond expansions will look a little different than other Magic: The Gathering sets but the frame will be distinct and the cards will have a special holofoil stamp denoting that they’re from these sets. Secret Lair X The Walking Dead is now considered part of this new direction and is the first to feature the holofoil stamp.

Unlike The Walking Dead set, Universes Beyond will be available in the normal places Magic is available though there may be special Secret Lair releases as well.

The 40K property has appeared in multiple card games on its own and Magic: The Gathering has recently teamed up with numerous unexpected properties like My Little Pony and The Walking Dead. Still, this one is a bit unexpected. You can read more about the new direction for Magic: The Gathering in the official announcement.
