Wizards of the Coast Announces the New Dungeons & Dragons storyline, Elemental Evil

Elemental Evil Logo  (2)Wizards of the Coast announced today that the next storyline for their revamped Dungeons & Dragons is called Elemental Evil. The story will thread through lots of different products including things for both digital and tabletop players. Elemental Evil will begin this March and run through mid-summer during which heroes are needed in the Forgotten Realms to discover and defeat secret cults that threaten to annihilate the Sword Coast by harnessing the powers of the elements of fire, water, air, and earth.

The product line-up includes the release of a new downloadable module—Neverwinter: Elemental Evilfor the highly acclaimed free-to-play Dungeons & Dragons MMORPG from Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment. Serving as an additional way for fans to experience the storyline, Neverwinter: Elemental Evil brings a new playable class—the Paladin—and increases the game’s level cap to 70. Neverwinter is set in the Forgotten Realms, and the new expansion launches in early 2015. Cryptic also recently announced Neverwinter on Xbox One will be available in early 2015 as well.

Characters in the D&D tabletop roleplaying game can help prevent devastation to the lands and people of the Forgotten Realms in the Princes of the Apocalypse adventure by Wizards of the Coast and Sasquatch Game Studio. Princes of the Apocalypse is available on April 7, 2015 and includes an epic adventure for characters levels 1 – 15 as well as new elemental spells and the element-touched genasi as a new playable race. In addition, a free download will be available in mid-March that includes more new races plus the player content available in Princes of the Apocalypse, just in time for the start of the Elemental Evil season of the D&D Adventurers League.

Other products tied into the Elemental Evil storyline include the Temple of Elemental Evil Adventure System Board Game and pre-painted collectible miniatures, both from WizKids Games. WizKids has also partnered with Perfect World Entertainment to bundle in-game items for Neverwinter with the Temple of Elemental Evil Adventure System Board Game and miniatures boosters. Rounding out the tabletop RPG game products is Gale Force Nine’s new Dungeon Master’s screen featuring Elemental Evil art, as well as unpainted, resin miniatures that tie into the adventure, all slated to release beginning in March.

Magic 2015 – Duels of the Planeswalkers Expansion Launches November 5

mtg Garruk's RevengeWizards of the Coast has announced Garruk’s Revenge, a brand new expansion for Magic 2015 – Duels of the Planeswalkers. The expansion brings additional content to Magic 2015 and puts the fate of Garruk Wildspeaker, the deadliest hunter in the Multiverse, in the player’s hands as he seeks his revenge. Garruk’s Revenge will be available on PC via Steam and Android via Google Play starting November 5th. Additional platforms including Xbox One, Xbox 360, Apple iPad and the Amazon Kindle will be available shortly thereafter.

Available for $4.99, Garruk’s Revenge will feature a collection of fan-favorite cards from the Alara block, delighting and challenging new and long-time Magic fans alike. With four new campaign levels and an expanded explore level, players will take on the role of Garruk, using his deck to battle their way through challenging foes. With every victory Garruk’s deck improves, and players will unlock cards from Alara to later modify their own deck creations as they hunt their prey across the planes of the Multiverse.

Along with the release of Garruk’s Revenge, all cards in both the original Magic 2015 campaign, Hunt Bigger Game and the Expansion are now entirely earnable through gameplay. With the release of this expansion, players who have unlocked access to the game’s five initial chapters (Innistrad, Theros, Ravnica, Zendikar, and Shandalar) now have the opportunity to earn Battle Boosters (previously called Premium Boosters) by winning multiplayer matches.

WizKids and Perfect World Team for Neverwinter in-game content!

WizKids Games is partnering with Perfect World Entertainment, Inc. to offer free in-game content to players of Perfect World’s free-to-play action MMORPG, Neverwinter, set in the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms universe from Wizards of the Coast.  Starting this fall, WizKids will include a variety of unlock-codes for Neverwinter digital items inside the packaging for its various D&D product lines, beginning with the D&D Attack Wing Organized Play Month One event. These codes can be redeemed by players for an array of digital in-game items in the Neverwinter MMORPG. Likewise, Perfect World will begin offering promo items from the WizKids D&D-themed products to Neverwinter players in the coming months.

To launch this promotion, WizKids is offering unlock- codes to fans who take part in its upcoming D&D Attack Wing OP Month One event starting November 12. Players who take part in the first OP event at retail stores will automatically receive a Vanguard Starter Pack for the Neverwinter MMORPG, while winners of the First, Judge and Fellowship Prizes will also receive a Fey Wolf Mount.

Wizards of the Coast Gives us a Glimpse at Dungeons & Dragons in 2015

dnd players handbook featuredAt PAX Prime 2014, Wizards of the Coast provided a glimpse of what Dungeons & Dragons will offer in 2015, with new digital offerings set in the Forgotten Realms from partners including Backflip Studios, Beamdog and Cryptic Studios with Perfect World Entertainment.

Throughout 2014, D&D has ignited excitement in the game industry with a celebration of the brand’s 40th anniversary, the launch of new rules for the tabletop RPG, and the exciting and engaging Tyranny of Dragons storyline.

Neverwinter MMORPG on Xbox One

Rob Overmeyer confirmed that the highly-acclaimed free-to-play MMORPG, Neverwinter, will be coming to Xbox One in the first half of 2015. At launch, console gamers will be able to experience the fast-paced combat and epic dungeons all set in the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms universe.

Dungeons & Dragons Partners with Backflip Studios

Ryan Drag unveiled that Backflip Studios is designing a “castle defense” style D&D game for mobile. The partnership is a natural fit as Backflip shares a common passion for the D&D brand, which is underscored in the recently released Developer Video. The mobile game is set to release in 2015 and additional information will be announced in the coming months.

Beamdog Continues to “Enhance” the Sword Coast

Trent Oster from Beamdog announced Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition is coming to iOS, Android and PC later this year. Trent also revealed two updates for Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, including availability on iPhone and the capacity to have multiplayer work across different platforms. All three Enhanced Editions are classic D&D computer RPGs that have been rebooted for play on modern tablets and PCs.

Warmachine: Tactics Early Access Beta Now Available in Standard Edition on Steam!

warmachine tacticsPrivateer Press Interactive has announced that the Standard Edition of Warmachine: Tactics is now available on Steam Early Access for $39.99.

Based on the award-winning Warmachine tabletop miniatures game, Warmachine: Tactics is a turn-based, squad-level strategy game for PC and Mac developed in cooperation with WhiteMoon Dreams and published by Privateer Press Interactive. The multiplayer beta pits two forces against each other in a deadly close-quarters encounter featuring a variety of steam-powered robots and spell-slinging warriors. Funded through Kickstarter a year ago, the campaign reached nearly 300% of the project’s goal and remains one of the top 40 funded Kickstarters of all time. Pre-release versions of Warmachine: Tactics were demonstrated at PAX East, E3, and San Diego Comic-Con, and the game will be at the Privateer Press booth at PAX Prime.

The Beta Standard Edition of Warmachine: Tactics includes beta access and all the features and content of the Standard Edition, including all updates as they become available. Also currently available is the $64.99 Deluxe Edition, which includes the same content as the Standard Edition plus additional downloadable content to be released over the upcoming months.

Amazon Purchases Twitch.tv

After long rumors of a buy-out by Google, Twitch has been purchased by Amazon for $970 million. The service which allows live video streaming of video games started a little over 3 years ago. According to reports, Twitch will be “keeping most everything the same,” and that the company will remain independent from Amazon. The acquisition will close in the second half of the year.

Twitch is the latest company to be purchased by the giant. Earlier this year Amazon acquired comiXology, the leader in digital comics.

Now, to dream up what Twitch might bring to the table for comiXology…..

Gen Con 2014: Obsidian Announces Pathfinder License

obsidian entertainmentGen Con 2014 doesn’t official kick off until Thursday, but announcements are already being made. Obsidian Entertainment, the developer of Fallout: New Vegas, South Park: the Stick of Truth and the Kickstarter phenomenon Pillars of Eternity, announced that they have entered into a long-term licensing partnership with Paizo Inc. to produce electronic games based on the popular Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

Obsidian’s first licensed product will be a tablet game based on the highly successful Pathfinder Adventure Card game, a cooperative game for 1 to 4 players. Players each have a unique character composed of a deck of cards and a set of stats. Characters have classes such as fighter, rogue, wizard and cleric, as well as numbers that define attributes such as strength, wisdom and charisma etc. Players will be able to customize their deck to better suit each individual’s vision of their character.

pathfinderIn the world of Pathfinder, players take on the role of brave adventurers fighting to survive in a world beset by magic and evil. The Pathfinder RPG is currently translated into multiple languages, with hundreds of thousands of players worldwide. The Pathfinder brand has also been licensed for comic book series, graphic novels, miniatures, plush toys, apparel, and is being developed into a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game.

Obsidian will be at Gen Con 2014 showing off an early prototype of the digital Pathfinder Adventure Card Game in the Paizo booth (#203) and in their own booth (#2151) featuring the first consumer hands on for Pillars of Eternity.

Magic 2015 available today on Steam, Xbox 360, Android, and Kindle!

Magic 2015 - campaign logoFollowing last week’s launch on iPad, Magic 2015 – Duels of the Planeswalkers is available today on PC (via Steam), Xbox 360, Android (via Google Play), and Kindle Fire!  Additionally, the game will launch on Xbox One later this summer.

Magic 2015 – Duels of the Planeswalkers challenges players to “Hunt Bigger Game” and confront the deadliest hunter in the Magic Multiverse – Garruk Wildspeaker. Players must attempt to stop Garruk as he turns his instincts away from beasts of the wild to a new quarry – you, his fellow Planeswalker. New this year to the latest installment of Duels of the Planeswalkers is the introduction of a full deck-building experience, allowing fans to customize their style of play like never before.

The release of the paper Magic 2015 Core Set is set for this Friday, July 18. The Magic 2015 set contains 14 cards developed by some of the most brilliant, creative minds behind popular games, including George Fan (Plants vs. Zombies), Notch (Minecraft), and Rob Pardo (World of Warcraft), along with a card designed by the Magic fan community. Magic 2015 – Duels of the Planeswalkers will feature eight of the designer cards.

Magic: The Gathering Enlists 14 Gaming Luminaries for New Set
