During its NOVA Open 2023 presentation Games Workshop revealed a new Warcry release. Warcry: Hunter and Hunted is an interesting box in that it’s a smaller box set than has usually been released. It still features two warbands but only one scenery piece.
In it is the Gorger Mawpack taking on Wildercorps Hunters featuring some awesome dog miniatures. The box also comes with a Mawpit and Warband Tome: Hunter and Hunted which gives you information on the two new warbands as well as rules, quests, background tables, shared campaign arc, and a new battleplan generator.
Next week features a rather focused pre-order week for Games Workshop with Warcry and Warhammer: The Horus Heresy being the two main releases.
Warcry: Nightmare Quest is the latest box set for Warcry and the big release for the week. The battle for the Ravening Ruin continues as a band of heroic huntsmen venture into the Gnarlwood on a quest to save the Mortal Realms… or so they think. Alongside these two complete warbands, Nightmare Quest contains a full complement of Gnarlwood scenery – including a massive, half-ruined Realmshaper Engine and a selection of twisted gnarloaks. Combined with the 64-page warband tome, double-sided game board, and reference cards.
The vampire ascetics of the Askurgan Trueblades are precision and discipline incarnate, suppressing their hunger to attain enlightenment in the ways of combat. This standalone warband of features eight miniatures and are now available on their own. The set features fighter cards and ability card making it easy to get them to the table right away.
The Claws of Karanak love blood like all devotees of Khorne. They revel in the carnage of open battle and aim to turn the jungles of Ghur into their own personal charnel house. It features a Houd of Wrath and seven other warriors all too happy to collect skulls for the skull throne.
It’s a tank-heavy week for Warhammer: The Horus Heresy featuring lots of new tanks now in plastic and some featuring resin. Leading the charge is the Mastodon which can feature a platoon of Space Marines within. The Mastodon will also soon be getting an updated datasheet to allow all of the options available on the new sponson sprue, such as volkite culverins and heavy bolters.
If you need more firepower, there’s the Fellblade, Falchion, and Glaive.
If you want to rain death from a distance, there are the Arquitor Bombards. The dedicated artillery tanks can mount either a spicula rocket system, a graviton-charge cannon, or a morbus heavy bombard. Despite their role as artillery, they still pack a pair of sponsons for more diverse work. Each kit includes resin autocannons, plus the full spread of plastic lascannons, heavy flamers, heavy bolters, and volkite culverins.
The Javelin Land Speeder also gets new weapon options and an updated datasheet to give more versatile load-outs to speed-hungry commanders.
The Damocles Command Rhino Upgrade Kit lets you upgrade a regular plastic Deimos-pattern Rhino into a mobile command base with powerful sensor suites.
From Black Libary comes Blightslayer by Richard Strachan which continues Gotrek’s adventures. The duardin Slayer saves a blasphemous warrior-priest from the gallows and earns a life-debt he neither wants nor needs. Nevertheless, Amara Fidellus is determined to return the favor, and the pair soon find themselves caught up in a sorcerous plot that – should it succeed – would plunge the Mortal Realms into the hellscape of Nurgle’s Garden. Blightslayer will be available in hardback, eBook, and MP3 audiobook editions.
Prince Maesa by Guy Haley is a tale of an exiled aelven prince scorned for the crime of loving a human returns to Black Library in paperback. White Dwarf 488 features the final part of the Herald of Misery saga. The magazine features the final battle in the White Dwarf Arks of Omen campaign, as the Tome Keepers and Blood Angels make a final desperate push to reach the center of the accursed space hulk. It also features brand-new lore surrounding the return of Lion El’Jonson. The serial Grombrindal adventure continues with another short story about the white-bearded ancestor.
