X-Wing 2nd Edition Has Been Announced

Fantasy Flight Games has announces X-Wing Second Edition ending months of speculation and rumors. The new edition is an update to the bestselling miniatures game of space combat set in the Star Wars galaxy.

Gameplay in X-Wing Second Edition is refined across the board, improving the game’s flow and refocusing on the physical act of flying starships. Faction identities are strengthened as well, giving each faction more unique tactics and strategies for new players and veterans alike to explore and master. What’s more, the second edition allows players to “use the Force,” a crucial part of the Star Wars galaxy, and now an important element to sway the tide of every X-Wing battle.

Alongside the second edition the publisher has announced an official X-Wing squad-builder app, ushering in an era of dynamic play for both Organized Play and casual games. With the app, players can easily assemble squadrons and manage their collections. Point costs for ships and upgrades and upgrade slots available to ships can be adjusted for the course of a single event, a tournament season, or an entire season of the game.

This new edition implements minor tweaks and changes to improve the game’s flow, clean up interactions, and refocus the game on the act of flying.

Factions have been strengthened with unique tactics and strategies for each. The First Order and Resistance now have their own distinct faction separate from the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire and thus have their own themes, strengths, and weaknesses.

The game also introduces the use of the Force. Pilots that are Force-sensitive will have an edge and can spend Force charges tthey can spend to perform feats, far beyond the ability of normal pilots. An example would be to improve aim or avoid incoming fire. You can do things like change a focus result on attack or defense. Combined with upgrade cards, those pilots are even better.

The X-Wing Second Edition Core Set includes three fully assembled and beautifully painted ships, as well as all the cards, movement tools, tokens, and dice that players need to get flying. A whole wave of expansions will be released simultaneously, giving players plenty of options to create and customize their X-Wing Second Edition experience. Conversion Kits for the Galactic Empire, Rebel Alliance, and Scum and Villainy for veteran players to bring their full collection of first-edition ships into the new edition will be released.

The X-Wing Second Edition Core Set, a wave of expansions, and Conversion Kits will be available in Q3 of 2018.
