WizKids' Dice Masters Classic Avengers Monthly OP Event

If you’re looking to add some classic Avengers to your Dice Masters you’re in luck as the next organized play event for WizKids‘ Dice Masters is Marvel Dice Masters: Classic Avengers. Organized play is exactly as it sounds and encourages stores to hold regular events where participants can win prizes and also receive items for just participating.

This OP kit features three cards, Iron Man: Pro Reg, Ant-Man: Classic Avenger, and Captain America: Classic Avenger. The first two cards are meant to be given out to those who perform the best in the events and the final cart is a participation card that everyone gets.

Ant-Man looks to be a new card using the Civil War set die, while Iron Man is also from that set with a card of the same name, and Captain America looks to be a new image for Civil War‘s Captain America: Freedom Fighter.

The Avengers Revealed for Knight Model’s Marvel Universe Miniature Game

Today the Avengers have been revealed for Knight Model‘s upcoming tabletop game Marvel Universe Miniature Game. This comes the day after the Guardians of the Galaxy were revealed, and the X-Men preceded that. The game will be released with three starter sets, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, and Avengers, that will each included four metal miniatures, character cards, and a mini rulebook.

The Avengers are made up of Steve Rogers as Captain America, Tony Stark as Iron Man, Thor, and Natasha Romanova aka Black Widow. We don’t know who will be in the blister that will be released along with the starter set.

Each character’s description sounds like they embody their comic counterparts. Captain America is a leader who provides boosts to his teammates. His Vibranium Shield acts to help boost his defense and can be used offensively attacking multiple enemies as it bounces off of them in the air. Iron Man is all about the suit which allows him to fly with speed, his built in offensive repulsor blasts, missiles, and the Unibeam. Thor fills the role of the flying tank in his strength, and Mjolnir. He can also bring down lightning and like Cap, use his hammer as a shield. Finally Black Widow is about the stealth and close combat. It sounds like she has an infiltrate ability and uses close combat, firearms, and her Widow’s Bite to take on her opponents.

So, now that all three starter sets have been revealed, which will you be getting? I can’t decide, so I guess it’s all of them for me!

Gen Con 2012 – Review – Marvel Heroclix TabApp

With the official release, now seems to be a perfect time to go over my first hand experience with Wizkid’s Heroclix TabApp which blends the real and digital when it comes to the popular figure game. The first thing this game isn’t, a recreation of the table-top game on the iPad. That caught me off guard as the teasers leading up to it, lead me to believe that’s what I was checking out. Instead, what we have is a fun game aimed at a younger audience that uses Heroclix physical characters in combination with an app for the iPad. It’s a good bridge to get the younger set into the game.

With two sets, one featuring X-Men characters (Wolverine, Cyclops and Iceman) and the other being Marvel Super Heroes (Captain America, Iron Man and Thor), six figures total, each has a story over 15 maps and 30 enemies. The game is pretty simple. You put the figure on the screen and then enemies come at you forcing you to attack the enemies by tapping your finger. It took me two games to get it down, so it isn’t quite as simple as that.

It’s a fun solo experience, and with the figures usable in regular Heroclix games it’s a great way to get your young kid into the physical game. Cut scenes entertainingly introduce you to each level and threw a swipe of your finger, you’re able to use power-ups and special attacks. It’s fun and definitely has an audience in mind, ages 8 and up.

While the person I talked to was rather coy, there’s plans to expand and integrate DC characters. We can expect two sets, one based on The Dark Knight Rises and another general DC super hero set.

If your son or daughter constantly want to play with your Heroclix, but are too young, this is a great alternative to get them interested.

Heroclix – Dirk Anger and “Successful” Dirk Anger

Wizkids has been rolling out previews of it’s upcoming Marvel Heroclix Captain America.  Below are the teasers for Dirk Anger and “Successful” Dirk Anger.

Heroclix Dirk AngerFrom the Wizkids website:

At 71 points Dirk Anger brings some interesting and useful abilities to any force.  His dial starts off with Stealth as he issues orders from the shadows of H.A.T.E.’s Aeromarine command ship.  Dirk’s penchant for wearing his favorite pink dress and utilizing unconventional weaponry is represented by Perplex, while his custom-made armor allows for some measure of protection from attacks in the form of Toughness.

In addition to the helping hand Perplex can lend, Dirk Anger’sUnusual Weapons of Mass Destruction special power also enhances your adjacent friendly figures by providing a +1 bonus to their attack values if they possess a special power themselves!

As he has endured much over his ninety years, Dirk Anger’s resilience is represented by Regenerate.

Also up is his zombie variant, “Successful” Dirk Anger.

Heroclix Successful Dirk AngerFrom the Wizkids website:

With his Brains! They’re What’s For Dinner! trait, Dirk has the potential to stay on the battleground well into the late-game!  Steal Energy is always useful, and full-dial Steal Energy even moreso! But Steal Energythat also heals equal to the amount of damage dealt? Excellent!

Mid- to late-dial Regenerate also helps Dirk stay in the action as he launches attack after attack on his foes in his search for brains (and possibly a new pink house dress).

Front loaded Charge allows Dirk to get right in the action as you manuever him into a position best suited to satisfy his cranial cravings.  Charge gives way to Flurry mid-dial as Dirk switches tactics and starts swinging wildly hoping to score some sweet, sweet grey matter, while a couple of clix of Perplex help Dirk confuddle his foes even further!

Wizkids continues to role out previews for their upcoming release, Marvel Heroclix Captain America.  This entry sees MODOK make it’s debut.

Heroclix ModokFrom the Wizkids website:

“As you insignificant, unevolved specimens can see, I am more than a match for many so-called “heroes”.  My specially designed conveyance allows me to use a Hovering Shot (Running Shot)  and target foes at will, while my Devastating Mental Beam (Penetrating/Psychic Blast)  reduces them to ash! And those betrayers in A.I.M. quake at my uncontested might as The Creation Becomes the Master (Leadership)!

“Think you’re formidable? Bah! Fools! My Mental Control (Outwit) will strip you of your vaunted powers or abilities and I will destroy you!

“And don’t even think of trying to harm me, my powers are far too mighty! Do you think you can penetrate my Atomic Force Screen (Impervious) or my Armored Hoverchair (Invulnerability)? Bah! Fools! Nor can you hope to bypass my Mental Scrambler (Energy Shield/Deflection) with your insignificant powers and abilities!

“Should you unevolved thugs attempt to ‘get in close’ in the hopes of avoiding my awesome mental might, I will destroy you all with my Psychic Bombs!  You contemptuous gnats won’t even know what hit you, and you won’t be able to trust your eyes when I unleash my Mental Illusions (Perplex) and manipulate your minds!!! Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!

“Pfah! In the unlikely event you can pull yourselves together enough to actually damage me, my ability to Reconstitute Self Through Sheer Mental Effort (Regenerate) will mock your every effort! Infinite Probability Calculation (Probability Control) means victory for  M.O.D.O.K.! Yes!

Heroclix – Hydra Agent and Richard Fisk

Bookmark and Share

Wizkids keeps rolling out the previews for the upcoming Marvel Heroclix Captain America.  Up next is a Hydra Agent and Richard Fisk.

Heroclix Hydra AgentFrom the Wizkids website:

At first glance, it’s easy to dismiss the Hydra Agent but don’t let appearances deceive you! Striking form the shadows, the Hydra Agent uses Stealth to conceal his approach.  Team up a few Hydra Agents together in hindering terrain and they can each gain the benefit of the Hydra team ability as they each make ranged combat attacks against their foes.
.

And speaking of ranged combat attacks, if you push your Hydra Agents they gain the use of Energy Explosion which is always handy for damaging multiple opposing figures at a time! Better yet, you don’t have to fear pushing (or just using Mastermind to shunt damage onto) your Hydra Agents because their trait, Cut Off One Limb ensures that you will have ample replacements should the worst happen to your Agents.

Heroclix Richard FiskFrom the Wizkids website:

Richard Fisk brings a host of useful powers to your Hydra force! Early-dial Shape Change keeps your opponents on their toes.  Shape Change gives way to Outwit as Richard Fisk demonstrates his tactical acumen for attacking his foe’s resources.  Finally late-dial Perplex allows Richard Fisk to add that extra little bit of help where it will do the most good for your force.
.

That’s not all!  Fisk’s Supreme Hydra, For Now special power allows you to choose your highest point figure each turn and allow them to use Mastermind.  The selected figure can only send damage to figures with the Hydra keyword, but that’s what the Hydra Agents are for!
